CGFNS CES Report Missing Clinical Hours

World Registration

Published

Hello!

I'm a Canadian educated nurse who is trying to work in the States. CGFNS sent a CES Report to Washington for me but in the report they stated I am missing clinical hours in psychiatric nursing and my education is "comparable" because of these deficiencies.

Anyone with similar issues with 'missing clinical hours' still able to get a state license?

Hello Mayra126

Well for me, Florida Board gave me a date for a meeting (along with others), where they went over our transcripts and made a decision on if to waive what was missing or not. I was missing hours in maternity /infant care but it was waived as I had way more hours in Pediatrics than is needed in the US. So I was given the go ahead to sit for NCLEX. But I had to wait for 4months for that meeting to be scheduled

Hi,Thanks a lot to anwer my questions, so I need to wait for my meeting, I checked my CES out and I saw that a have a lot of clinical hours and practical hours more than Florida required, so maybe they will take the same decision. I just need to wait but you know it is so difficult, I almost done. It was 1 year in this process. because the TOEFL examn was difficult. but now I'm done for the next step.

Thanks a lot

Mi informe CES también indica que me faltan horas clínicas en atención de maternidad e infantil (OB). ¿Alguien puede decirme cómo solucionaron este problema?

Hi, I have the same problem, but I'm waiting for florida health of my final result, because they told me that I need an special evaluation. I'm nervous about it.

Below is a comment in my CES Report. should I be bothered as I wait for response from the board? have anyone experienced this before?

In CGFNS' opinion this applicant's studies are comparable in some aspects to the completion of a first-level nursing (RN) diploma program in the United States. However, the applicant had educational deficiencies in the following: - 32 hours of theoretical instruction completed in Nursing Care of Children.

Hello Emmanuel,

What Board did you apply to? Most of us seem to have that particular deficiency when it comes to child/infant care. During Covid, Florida waived those courses for me. But Michigan that I was trying to endorse into absolutely refused to compromise even though I had passed NCLEX. It's a little hard to tell you how to proceed at the moment but you might have to find a hospital/clinic to complete those hours. Goodluck!

I hope the Texas BON can suggest the next step if deemed deficient enough to require enrolling in a course like what they do in California where they have schools catering to Internationally Educated Nurses with theoretical/clinical deficiencies in Medical/Surgical/Psychchiatrics/Obstetrics/Pediatrics.

Specializes in Oncology.

I got a my CES report from CGFNS stating that I am 30hours deficient in Child Nursing. I registered with Texas Board of Nursing.
Please how can I proceed. Any advice?

Does anyone know if CGFNS goes through your course modules and allocate some hours to some of your theory courses based on your modules and transcript? I am asking because my sister is a UK Adult nurse, her University in United Kingdom is refusing to provide exact breakdown for her theory hours. They wrote that in UK they give overview of theory hours completed in the program and not specific courses. In her program,  she completed both obs &Gynea, pediatrics and Psychiatric nursing. All these courses were integrated in different courses and not as an individual modules.  She seems to be good in placement hours.

I am US trained RN, but the UK school system is different.

Hi everybody,

I've been following this thread for a while and see many similar questions to mine, but haven't found the right answer yet so I'm gonna give it another shot:

I'm trying to get my license in SD, and CGFNS told me my OB/Peds hours were insufficient (as many here have experienced).

Does anybody know if for example NY has lower hour requirements? Has anybody had success trying a different state?

I'm debating to switch to getting a NY license, and then getting endorsed here in SD.

Would LOVE to hear from someone who had success getting their license without getting the extra hours!!

Hello Emmanuel,

Did you manage to sort out the issue?

Hello  Emmanuel, what board are you applying to? First  ANY deficiency is always going to be a problem.  And for so e reason, it's always around maternity/infant care! Sorting that problem out, may be a little tricky because you must complete those hours somehow. During covud, I was lucky enough to have those deficient hours waived. But it's different these days. I had to go back to my school in Europe to get those hours done because it was easier that way. If u find a school that will let u do it here, good for you.

Lastly, some states are just complicated. I applied to Michigan board. You see that statement..."comparable in some aspects?" That's where they are tying me down now even after completing the missing hours n a report from CGFNS. So, be on the lookout for your report...

I have been following this thread as I am worried I am going to come up against a deficiency in theory/clinical hours for paeds/obstetrics in the licensure process (New Zealand-trained RN).

Has anyone gotten declined by a state BON then applied to an "easier" BON (I hear NY has less hurdles) then successfully endorsed to the state BON that originally declined the application due to educational deficiencies?
