So first let me say I myself am a certified nursing assistant so this will not be a blog discriminating against CNA's. But more of a venting session if I must. I was recently invited to a SECRET black nurse organization on one of the most popular social media sites on the web. I was ecstatic to be invited and love every moment of it as I saw it as a chance to receive a wealth of information and access to resources as I am a learning nursing student as well. But this quickly faded as the swarms of members joined and it turned it into a Picture gallery of single sexy nurses across the nation. I'm leading to an event that prompted the admin to make a list of rules one of them being if your not an actual NURSE (lpn or RN) or a nursing student you cannot be apart of this group. Now in my head I'm like whats the discrimination for; cna's are the back bone to nursing itself. As more and more time goes by CNA's are not just helping with toileting and feeding needs (Which to me nursing should be a holistic approach and contributes the overall treatment to the patient) we possess phlebotomy skills and more on the job more skills such ng tube feeds iv and more. It lead to comments being thrown around like "no offense to CNA's but I work hard for my nursing license" "They can join when they become an actual nurse" which never lead to my question which is "SHOULD CNA'S NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE REALM OF NURSING?"
Proper grammar distinguishes you as a professional.
Oh my, its so funny you mention the word professional. I think I just read a thread where you stated you told the tele tech the reason the monitor was stating asystole is becasue you put a pillow over your patients head in efforts to try and be funny. Which by the way was not funny....in my "personal" opinion. So lets keep it light-stick to being a nurse whose probably one unfunny comment from being reported to human resources!
Barbie, what it all boils down to is that you are not a nurse so therefore, you cannot be part of some secret society for nurses. If it bothers you that much, do what the rest of us nurses have done: go to nursing school and take the NCLEX. Once you do that, you can be apart of your little organization that you want to join so badly.

Yes thats the whole point of this thread springchick1. Im so glad you pointed that out to me. I have been a cna for eight years enrolled in a bsn program for two and I never realize the reason why I'm working my ass off to become a nurse is to be apart of a little organization. I say you go back to school and become a psychologist, because you have me all figure out!!!

I'm so sorry the big bad nurses won't let you into their organization!! We are just so mean and hateful!! Is that what you want to hear? Does that make you feel better?
That's great if you really are in a BSN program. In a different thread, you said you had talked to Chamberlain and they wouldn't accept you if you had a GPA under 2.75. So what BSN program are you in if you are trying to apply to an on-line school?
In your original post you are all bent out of shape because because you can't be in an organization for nurses. You are NOT a nurse. You are a CNA. Your hospital may be letting you do things outside your scope of practice but that doesn't change the facts.

I sure did make a post about chamberlain.Which by the way is not an online school for bsn students. Now if you yourself would like to go back to obtain higher learning you might be eligible to take online classes. How else would you know they offer online classes unless your were to trying tooo........Scratch psychologist your research skills show you could have a promising career in journalism. So if your asking, no I never applied to chamberlain. I am and will continue working my ass off at my four year university to improve my gpa. If only I went to a community college such as yourself I could be done with school and patronize people on the internet! Hey spring chick if you read my original post I believe I stated I was allowed to stay as I am a nursing student but voluntarily left.I'm not bent out of shape sweet pea, its an open debate. You've made your opinion so you and the sour puss avi you rode in on can exit stage left. thanks
Today's word of the day is sanctimonious.
Barbie, I reserve the right to believe anything I want is funny, as do you. Humor, when shared at appropriate times, does not reflect on ones professionalism. Additionally, you fail to comprehend that nursing in general requires a totally different type of professionalism and demeanor if you are going to effectively communicate with the vast array of patients you will have, convey to them that you are, in fact, a trustworthy person and therefore capable of understanding the care they need, coping with harder shifts with coworkers who are equally stressed out, and finally, going home and feeling unburdened enough to go back the next morning. Humor is a tool we have for survival. Darkness may vary.
Talk to me about professionalism when, after you've obtained your professional licensure, you've learned what nurse culture really feels like and you can have a rational conversation without feeling the need to tell us how awesome you are.

Actually, I never said that Chamberlain was an online school for BSN students. And no, I'm not trying to take classes there. I saw YOUR post there. And just think, if you HAD gone to a community college like I did, you could be a nurse now and be a member of the secret society. Maybe I should go look them up....

If you are enrolled in a BSN program I sure hope your papers look nothing like your posts. Some are huge run on sentences but all in all they you are lacking grammar, punctuation & syntax.

Lol you're not even a nursing student, and you're taking jabs at a RNs degree?
The fact that a for profit school like chamberlain won't even accept you is very telling. I know for certain a lowly community college wouldn't even touch your application.

In the last five years. In OB, "the job" an IV is doing is primarily to maintain access in the case of a C/S or postpartum hemorrhage. So yes, an 18g is typical. If the veins appeared small, we'd use a 20. We never kept anything smaller than a 20 on the unit.
