CCBC, Fall 2011 Applicants =)

Published

Hello Everyone,

Here we go again! This is my second time applying to CCBC's nursing program. I look forward to chatting with everyone as we wait for the GOOD news! I believe things happen for a reason! I have good faith that Fall 2011 is going to be my turn for acceptance. I guess we will see if I am right.

For anyone who was not accepted this Spring, we can be a great support system for each other :).

GOOD LUCK!!!

Hello. I graduated from Essex eve/weekend program last May. Good luck for those who will be going into this program in August. I won't sugar coat it so here goes....your life will end on the first day lol. This program is no joke. It was the hardest thing I had ever done in my life! If you want to pass you have to give up your social life and study study study. All the tests are NCLEX based and very hard but not as hard as NCLEX questions. So if you can pass the tests, you should do well with the NCLEX. At most times, all the answers look correct. Read the choices carefully because sometimes just one word makes it right or wrong.

Also you will be going to a skills lab either on a Monday or wed. You pick. Then class Tuesday and Thursday evening and clinicals on Sat and Sun. We were not allowed to pick a site. This may have changed. And depending on the instructor, you would have to be at the site anywhere between 530am to

7am. Some instructors are harder than others and demand more from you.

Also, I would definitly invest in the books and buy them. You will be using them the entire 2 years. You all will also be getting ATI books that are included in the tuition. ATIs are NCLEX predicter exams and you have to get a certain percentage to pass and that is based on whatever the passing NCLEX percentage is at the time of the test. If you fail take the retest at home and have to get at least a 90 on that one.

If you get a 74.99 on one of the exams in class, you fail unless you can prove one of the questions were wrong. So go to the test reviews. Every point counts.

Well enjoy your summer while you still can. Oh and Mr. Mac rocks! You all hope he is teaching fundamentals cause he will keep you awake.

i went in today and talked to the lady at the front desk (SHP office-essex.) She said they were still having printing problems, but the letters will finally be going out tomorrow morning...so hopefully by saturday everyone will have a letter!

Good Morning,

I went to the Essex Campus yesterday evening and virtually every computer system was down. I doubt any letters went out yesterday. I could not even register for classes.

Shanelle, what are you planning to take in the fall?

Hello Corrine,

I am planning on taking chem 107/108 and Math 163 in summer. In fall I plan on repeating A&P I and Micro. Of course retake TEAS. How about you?

Hi Again! This is Christen- Since I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and we are going to spend the next two years together, I thought that I would help you out-

Ok- so the book list for NURN 153 has been posted for Essex Fall 2011- it says All Staff, so this should cover both daytime and E/W classes. I've mentioned buying books from Amazon before- but if you aren't familiar with it, I wanted to show you the savings. I have researched the book list and provided prices and links. The best thing about Amazon is the Prime membership. Prime gives you unlimited free 2-day shipping for all items sold by Amazon (not third-parties) and overnight shipping for only 3.99. The prime membership is usually $79.00/year; however, they have a FREE student membership for one year. Go to http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info - it's an awesome deal. I've been a paying Prime member for years, otherwise I'd do it! :twocents:

Shanelle, I am taking A&P II, PSYC 101 and MATH 153 in the fall. I'm mostly concerned with improving my grades in A&P and Psychology as I currently have C's in both classes. I'll probably take advantage of winter semester and pull a class or two online, if available.

If you are able to take Doug Meise for Micro, you won't need the textbook. Yes, it's listed, but he doesn't use it and probably only refers to it once or twice in the semester. As long as you log into Web Ct to print his lecture power points, you're golden. :-)

I will also be retaking the TEAS. Maybe we could form a study group? I know my biggest issue with the TEAS is Math and of course all of the Earth Science on the Science section.

Thanks Christen! I just used your list to order my doasage book and only paid 49.00 (including shipping) for a used copy with the CD instead of 90.00 at the bookstore.

Hey Corrine,

That sounds good. My email address is [email protected] if you want to send me an email. I looked for Meise and he was not teaching in the summer or either his class is full. I do plan on purchasing the $85 study guide and 4 online test from ATI to study for the TEAS. How bout you?

Thanks, the reason I was getting it from them is because they allow you to take 2 online test twice and send you the TEAS V manual. They say that the onlist pre-test are set up to mock the actual test. Hope they are right because I need all the help I can get. LOL

I bought the TEAS IV study book and it hence my 67.3 on the TEAS V exam.

Does anyone have experience with the online pretest from ATI?

Meise is incredibly hard to get into. He's one of those teachers where it's beneficial to be on Simon the very first day registration opens in order to register. Is he available in the fall? I'd keep checking because there may be someone that drops or they didn't pay their tuition. :lol2:

I have the TEAS V study guide but it really didn't do much for the test. I found the study guide and test completely different, nothing really prepared you for what was on the test. I did buy the online practice assessments because AB1967 suggested them and he said they were more useful/helpful in preparing. I plan on buying them at least twice so I have plenty of prep before I take it again. I figure I'll take the TEAS in the fall and if needed, I'll take it again in the spring. I'll definitely e-mail you though! We could always get together and study for our fall classes. I've taken A&P I and did well and Micro was a breeze, minus my final practical - which sucked because it was the night I found out I was rejected! :uhoh3: What campus are you closest to? I live right up the street from Dundalk.
