Hello, I had a felony charge of CDS in 1996. I completed the probation and never had another run in with the law since. I was young and stupid and made a really bad decision. I can't expunge the charge because the state this happened in doesn't allow it no matter how old the charge is. So fast forward...I been an RN since 2010. I have an AA, BSN and MSN. I am also nationally certified as a PMHNP. The state I plan to practice in did issue me a controlled substance registration knowing about this old charge. Has anyone had issues with getting a DEA registration with an old state felony charge? Will have to do the just cause hearing? I am really worried because I obtained my first NP job and I am scheduled to start in May but only after I get a DEA registration and the credentialing is complete. Thank You!

Hello. Sorry to say but Washington is not a new grad friendly state especially the Spokane area. None of the hospitals around here new grads or nurses without experience. They include Sacred Heart, Holy Family, Valley and Deaconess. You would have a better chance at the hospitals on the western side of Washington. There are a lot of home care agencies who will hire new grads but the pay is very low and they will work you 7 days a week if you let them. Good luck. If you find a place that hires new grads and old new grads besides homecare let me know.

I keep asking for a more complicated case and they just seem to ignore me. Makes me nuts. Maybe I should start calling out once a week and be 15 to 20 min late everyday like the nurses who relieive me do. If I was rich I would quit right now lol

I'm in Washington State and I have to renew my RN license every year on my birthday. I took the Nclex in August of 2010 and when I was mailed the initial license I still had to renew on my birthday 7 months away.

Yes I have but unfortunatly here in Spokane all the hospice agencies want a nurse with at least 3 years experience specific to hospice. I applied anyway and got a rejection email from every company

You should have asked before they took your blood. Also does this company hire nurses with no experience. I have been working private duty for almost a year but considering the job I still consider myself with no experience.

I am an RN. I am not an NP nor an NP student. So with that out of the way I just want to say one of my clinical instructors was an NP and she could run circles around any MD in the facility we were at. She was very intelligent. NPs can also work alone in private practice and I know where I live they can prescribe narcotics. They are not used as fill ins for physicians. I have an NP for a primary care provider through my insurance. She is an FNP and that means she can work with pediatrics all the way up to geriatrics just like a family doctor can. She also makes darn good money. More than I would ever make as an RN.

The only thing I like about PDN is being able to make my own schedule. The worse things are not being able to use my nursing skills, dysfunctional families and the boredom. I took a PDN job as a new grad cause I too needed a job. Now I fear I am stuck in a low paying glorified babysitter role forever. I have even considered changing my college major from MSN nursing to something that offers a better future. IDK? I am just so frustrated at this time. I am dissapointed because I loved doing my nursing clinicals in school and was so excited to get my first job. Now I hate nursing and I hate being a nurse . I have applied for hundreds of nursing jobs with no luck. Since I have been a nurse for over a year I also no longer qualify for new grad positions.......sigh.

So gladd to hear other nurses feel like babysitters too! And are also bored out of their minds lol. I thought I was alone. I have been doing PDN nursing for almost a year now. It is my first and only job as an RN. I have applied to hundreds of other more challenging nursing opportunities and have not received one interview. I did get a lot of rejection emails lol I really want to use my skills, see the sun shining and know what it is like to have coworkers who I can communicate with on shift.

I would love a more complicated case at night. I honestly feel like a babysitter. I am so bored at night I have resorted to cleaning the bathroom everytime I work. This is not required but it is something to do. One patient is on a vent at night and the other one has a trach and no vent. Both patients require min. Suctioning or any care at night. I'm just there to make sure nothing happens. To me it would make sense for the parents to have a baby monitor at night instead of a nurse. I am also very frustrated with not learning a thing. But unfortunatly there are no other places hiring in my area. My pay is also extremly low even with the noc difference.

I do the NOC shift for the agency I work for and I hate it. I hate because it's hard to stay awake for a 10 or 12 shift. To me, this is entirely too long for an overnight shift in PDN. Also the boredom makes the time go by too slow. I have this one family who doesn't want nurses to bring laptops or even to read! Well I refused to work with this family unless they at least agreed to a book. They did thank god but even reading every night for 10 to 12 hours gets old. I also hate working in the dark with a flashlight and not being able to eat hot meals. I swear if I eat one more lunch meat sandwhich I will scream! If you don't mind me asking what are the hours you are offering for this NOC shift? If the hours are too long or not your normal 7 to 7 or 9 to 7 that may be the problem.

Wait. You are not suppose to ask your preceptor questions? This is unsafe practice and to be honest the most stupidest thing I have ever heard. I work alone and if I am unsure of something or have a question I can call the NP on duty that night for answering questions. In fact, its encouraged to call and ask questions. You should just educate yourself if you can't learn by asking your preceptor a question.

I also have fibroids and endometreosis. The pain is unbearable at times and even morphine doesn't help. I also feel like I haven't slept in years. But I can't take strong drugs while I am working. That is just how I am because I wouldn't be able to properly do my job when stoned on pills. Some people might do just fine but for those who can't function on strong pain killers I found something that works and it is amazing....hot green tea :)

I had a mixed experience during my clinicals in school. Every single instructor I did have would take us individualy to the nurse we were assigned to that day and introduce us. It was the policy of the school and it was mandatory. Some nurses were mean and some were nice. To be honest I learned more from the nice ones who had more patience than the mean nurses. When someone is being rude and disrespectful it's hard to focus. There is no reason for it unless I was about to do something that would kill or harm a person. One nurse I was assigned to was like a darn Army drill seargent lol. She would ask question after question and would not even take a break to let me answer. Then she would just walk away without explaining anything????? What a weirdo lol. The thing is the nursing profession is supposed to be a caring one filled with compassionate individuals and there is no reason to be rude to your coworkers or students just because you feel they can learn more by it. I think it hurts more than helps and gives us nurses a bad rap. I am a grown woman and was older than most of the preceptors and I expect to be treated as an adult not someone who is inferior to you.

It took a couple of hours. It's not bad. Mostly how to fill out all the forms. A short module on how to give the vaccines. It wasn't bad. But if the training material does not reappear soon I will have to call them. There is no way I can memorize all those forms. lol
