CCBC, Fall 2011 Applicants =)

Published

Hello Everyone,

Here we go again! This is my second time applying to CCBC's nursing program. I look forward to chatting with everyone as we wait for the GOOD news! I believe things happen for a reason! I have good faith that Fall 2011 is going to be my turn for acceptance. I guess we will see if I am right.

For anyone who was not accepted this Spring, we can be a great support system for each other :).

GOOD LUCK!!!

got my acceptance letter today :yeah:however, so :uhoh3: nervous about the math stuff.

Has anyone signed up for dosage?

I know the letter says we can wait till orientation, but they offer it online and in class, I have never took an online class and was just wondering what everyone was thinking about it?

the 95% pass rate has me a little nervous

Tracy512, I just posted the same thing before reading your post. My strength is not in math. Does anyone know what this class is like? Thanks so much.

Thank you to everyone who gave supportive words :) I am very driven to become a nurse, so I am by far not giving up. I may be accepted into the LPN program (trying to find the good in things :) ). It is not the RN program, but it is a start.

Nothing against you Punkyb at all! :) But, I don't understand why I wasn't at least wait-listed. :( I got all B's in my sciences and A's and B's in the rest (1 C in speech). How did you do on the other sciences and the TEAS. They didn't give me a reason for a rejection, so I am trying to figure out what I can do better for the next time.

Ugh they won't let me private message you because I haven't hit 15 posts... so thanks for the message, and no worries :) I know exactly how your feeling as I have been rejected twice before. I wonder if they take that into consideration at all, applying more than once? I dunno just thinking. Also both of the rejection letters I got in the past just stated something like "the applicant pool was great and though you met the requirements your scores were not competitive enough" Something like that, it seemed like a generic letter to me.

ENGL 101: A transferred in

ENGL 102: B transferred in

PSYC 101: A

PSYC 103: A

SOCL 101: A

SPCM 101: A

MATH 153: A

BIOL 220: B

BIOL 221: B

BIOL 230: C transferred in

As for the TEAS, I took it over a year ago so back then it was the TEAS 4. I don't know how they relate the scores of TEAS 4 to TEAS 5???? But for TEAS 4, the listed requirements were a minimum composite/overall score of 70% and a reading score of 85%.

I got: 95% reading score and 81% composite.

Hope that helps:)

punkyb???

And you got rejected??? now I'm more confused then ever! So what did you do that was different for this time around?

Thanks Punkyb! :) This whole thing is crazy!

punkyb???

I applied for Spring 2011 with the same grades and classes as I posted above except without the Speech and got rejected. I went and talked to Gwen Jones and basically said tell me what I have to do to get in and I'll do it! She told me that without Speech there was no way I was getting in, she said think about it... 20 other people have the same or even a little lower GPA then you but they have all their classes including Speech and you don't, we are going to choose them. I said ok what about Micro? should i retake it because that's my only C? She told me no don't worry about that, that having one C wasn't going to stop me from getting in. Then I asked should I retake the TEAS to get a better score, and she said said my score was fine and that I shouldn't waste my money on taking it again. So I listened to her, took Speech and got an A and didn't retake Micro or the TEAS. And where does it get me?????? wait listed?!?!?!?! I don't get it either! I guess there must be a lot of 4.0 GPA's and Advanced TEAS scores out there! I'm just seriously hoping some people decide to go to different schools and I can get it! Please oh please.

Best of Luck Punkyb!!! You got this :)

Gwen is so misleading. :hdvwl: She recently told me (this past week) that I should retake any classes that I have a C in, which honestly there are quite a few. She recommended retaking A&P II, which I am, as well as PSYC 101, which I am - because PSYC 101 is used in both GPA calculations. It's really one of those things you have to take with a grain of salt because I've read on here that people were advised by Gwen to retake certain classes... and they didn't, and yet they were still accepted. :uhoh3: She's not part of the review and/or selection process so I'm sure she doesn't really know what they look for, especially when they have so many applicants. It's terrible that someone with good grades such as yourself was wait listed yet there were people who were still taking 2-3 pre-requisites this semester who were accepted. It doesn't make sense and to me, that's discouraging for others who are trying to get in because if someone with good grades can't get in, where's the hope for the rest of us?

I have been coming home every day after work, before picking up my three kids, just to check the mailbox. I got my letter today, and I am still at a loss of what the h*ll the wait list entails. Like others said, they won't tell you where you are on the list...so...I am not remaining positive here. PLUS, I just received my final grade for the semester (A&P II) and I barely, and I mean BARELY, got a "C". Yes, that's all I need, but I can guarantee you that when they look at that wait list again, they are throwing me to the curb. So...

I was already registered in both A&P II (again), as well as a Math class (my Math grade was a "D" from TWENTY years ago, and since I am "old" and had no clue about this whole application process...I didn't retake it...anyhow), BUT, for some stupid reason in the back of my mind I am still thinking that "just in case I get called", there is no need for me to actively be IN those classes when they make those calls, because then that would be a huge waste of money, time, energy, etc. I cancelled them and registered for the last 3 classes that will land me my AA in General Studies, and will retake Math and A&P II in the Fall or next Spring...if need be.

I see that there is a mandatory orientation in the beginning of June, which wouldn't help us on the wait list as the letter stated they review the wait listed after the Spring grades, and send out a final letter in late June.

I was RIGHT on the borderline of Advanced for my TEAS, but didn't retake it to gain that level. I have taken many of my classes at CCBC, whether now or 20 years ago when it was still Essex CC :). In my mind I am way at the bottom of the wait list, but I am clueless as to how many people are on there in the first place.

It would be nice to know something, anything, to give us a little more understanding of all of this. Besides, not knowing isn't helping us plan our future much either :(

Sorry this is so long, but after the letter today, I felt a vent coming on :)

sb113, stay positive! you have just as good of a chance as anyone else. my thought is, there will be more people called from that list this time around. i am sure more people than usual will not be accepting their spot because it took so darn long for decisions to come out. also, people who were accepted may not be getting that c that they need to keep their spot. other factors such as no seat fee paid in time or not passing the dosage class could open a spot.

what doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger! i plan on retaking speech this summer to get rid of my only c. even if i do get into the lpn program, i still need good grades for acceptance into the lpn to rn.

again, congrats to everyone who did get accepted! just remember, others have worked very hard and did not make it in. be proud that you were able to make it in such a hard time to do so. j

as for us students that did not make it this time, don’t give up! call gwen jones or gwyn degner and find out what it is you need to do to become more competitive. take the back door if you have too; such as the lpn program at dundalk or any other school. i know people frown upon the lpn program, but this day and age things aren’t as simple as they used to be. 100 applications for lpn to rn sound much better then 500+! yes i hear, “do you really want to work with old people?” well, like i said before i am a very positive person. to those that say that, i say, 90% of the population in hospitals are elderly anyway. and yes, i don’t mind old people, lol! i will take nursing experience anywhere i can get it.

:heartbeat sorry so long! i too needed to vent! :heartbeat

i agree, there are many factors that will help to open a few spots this fall. the letter really doesn't say your in. it says you have been accepted on this long list of conditions. finishing any pre-recs with appropriate grades, pay the seat fee on time, must have health insurance, must pass a back ground check. must have all immunizations required, must attend two mandatory orientation meetings, must be clear of any infectious disease, tb and ppd. you must have a physical exam completed, and must be able to pass a drug screen. there is a long letter describing the change in tuition for out of county residents. evidently this is a big concern for the college, students were expecting to get in county rates will no longer get that benefit. i think there will definitely be some wait list spots open this year. not to mention the students who have accepted spots in other programs because of the long wait from ccbc this year. i know of two who are taking spots at hartford. i know this procedure sucks but some are going to get in off of the wait list for sure.

it would suck if you took a summer biology and got the call from the wait list. 400+ bucks down the drain!

i feel like i want to hand out a few
