Hi everyone! I'm new here, i'm wanting to apply to CCAC nursing program in the spring for the fall 2015. Wondering if anyone else out there is in the same boat? Or can i get some advice? I'm wondering if we're allowed to turn in reccomendations etc. I'm concerned because when i first started college i didnt care about my grades so my GPA is very low right now but i have all of the pre-reqs and co-reqs out of the way except A+P 2 and micro. Hoping to take those in the Spring/Summer. Has anyone else ever gotten in with a low GPA? Also, I keep seeing things about different campuses and people saying their "Allegheny evening" or "North Day".. where do you find out those schedules?? Thanks everyone!!

(the Mods should move this to PA nursing)
Welcome to Allnurses! I'm a current nursing student at CCAC Boyce fast track. To answer your questions:
1. Recommendations or any extra info (awards, employment) that is not on the application form are not recommended. According to people from the nursing dept I talked to last year, none of the extras are considered when the decisions are being made.
2. When you started college was it at CCAC? If not according to application: "If 12 or more college level credits were taken through CCAC, CCAC GPA will be used exclusively." As long as your CCAC GPA is good you should be fine.
3.As for the different campuses, I know that Boyce has the fast track program only in the Fall (nights and weekends 18-months) and the day program in the Spring. South has day and evening programs but only accepts students in the Fall, North only has a day program that admits in the Fall. Allegheny I believe has evening and day programs that admit both fall and spring cohorts.
As far as schedules for an actual week will vary from person to person. I currently have lectures on Monday(everyone has lecture the same day), labs on Tuesday and Clinical on Wednesday. But there are some people in my class that have lab on Saturday and clinical on Wednesday.

I am applying this spring for Fall 2015 Nursing Program. While employment and awards aren't really considered, the nursing section of the websites states that academic achievement and related accomplishments will be used as second consideration to the GPA. This was as of last week when I read over the information once more.
As for GPA, the online information still lists the old GPA standard. However, several nursing friends at CCAC suggested that above 3.5 ( Especially a 3.7 or higher) would really help. Where is your GPA currently sitting?
The Nursing application will lists the locations and you will be able to pick your first and second choice. Speaking of which, the Nursing office at Allegheny campus told me the applications were online this year. However, they have yet to be posted so I will be stopping in there during the first week of class to find out for sure. ( I doubt anyone wants me harassing them during the holidays lol)

Hello everyone! I am also waiting to apply for CCAC's fall 2015 nursing program. Im hoping to get into Boyce's fast track program. I currently have a 3.9 gpa and all prerequisites done expect for A&P 2, at which I'm taking this spring. I'm nervous and anxious! I work at two nursing homes as a cna and I hear so many stories from my coworkers who didn't get in despite having a high gpa with all prerequisites done.
That makes me nervous as well. With the added bonus, my gpa is 4.4, I believe, and I'm still worried that it won't be enough. I have A&P 1 done and I am finishing all my non nursing classes this spring, so I'm worried that will affect it since others have all of them done already.
Which classes do you have left? Also which program are you hoping to get into?
I'm doing A&P 2 this semester with the Psych 108, Math 108, and English 102. Those aside, I'll have Micro in 1st Summer. Those are the only classes I currently don't have done. All my pre-requisites and most of the non nursing are done. I know others have more done, however, if they are going by mostly gpa, I would be fine since mine is really high. However, there's so much conflicting information with the school, so I guess there isn't a 100% of anything. I'm looking at doing Allegheny Day. I would have picked Boyce, however I did hear from several students firsthand that it is one of the least liked campuses for Nursing. I've also heard this from several advisors and staff.
Is A&P 2 the only class you have left? What else will you be taking this spring?
Yea that's the only class I have left beside the humanities elective which I'm going to take this summer. There is just so much conflicting information about who gets in or not. I just wish the process went a little bit faster lol. My second choice is to apply for one of the Upmc programs. They are actually done in 16 months. I choose to go to Boyce because it's just so convenient for me.

Hello, everyone. I took A&P I and II and microbiology and got As in all. I also have all of my other non-nursing courses, such as math, psychology, and English done. My preferred program at CCAC is night at Allegheny for fall 2015.
I read on the CCAC website, "For more information on applying to an Allied Health Career Program, please email your program of choice and your US Postal Mailing address to Allied Health Career Programs Admission Information. Applications are not available online." After I sent my email, a secretary replied to me, "The Nursing program application information will be available at Community College of Allegheny County :: Home the end of December." December came and went, and I do not see a nursing application on CCAC's website. Has anyone obtained an application?
At the beginning of December, I was told that the application would be online as well. However, it still isn't posted. I've emailed the office and will be going in there this week because I haven't received a response from them and feel as though a face to face would be more effective.

I am in the Boyce fast track program, my GPA when I applied was a 4.5 and I did not have eng 102 done or my humanities elective, they say it's an 18 month program but we started August 2014 and were done december 2015 so really it's like 16 months, boyce isn't a bad program, just a little unorganized but I have nothing to compare it to, I'm just thankful I'm there and had the opportunity to become a nursing student! Good luck to everyone applying! Don't stress it because once you turn in that application all you will think about is if your accepted or not, which takes a month or 2 to hear back I believe!
