CCAC Prospective Nursing Students Fall 2015

Published

Hi everyone! I'm new here, i'm wanting to apply to CCAC nursing program in the spring for the fall 2015. Wondering if anyone else out there is in the same boat? Or can i get some advice? I'm wondering if we're allowed to turn in reccomendations etc. I'm concerned because when i first started college i didnt care about my grades so my GPA is very low right now but i have all of the pre-reqs and co-reqs out of the way except A+P 2 and micro. Hoping to take those in the Spring/Summer. Has anyone else ever gotten in with a low GPA? Also, I keep seeing things about different campuses and people saying their "Allegheny evening" or "North Day".. where do you find out those schedules?? Thanks everyone!!

If anyone is interested text me at 412-999-1077. My name is Ross

Interested in buying the books for much cheaper than the bookstore will sell them to you let me know?

Do you think there was any vital information that I missed at the registration and the drug calc class at north? Really nervous that I'm already behind. The booklist is so much different than South's.

Hey Kal, from what I remember, at the registration all they really did was sign us up for classes and go over all of the papers in the information packet they passed around. Did you get the packet with information about using Certified Background, ordering uniforms, and the book list? It is vital to get the Certified Background stuff done ASAP and you will need your uniform for your clinicals.

As for the Drug Calculation class, they primarily went over using dimensional analysis (which is a fancy term I hadn't heard before, but was exactly the same method as converting moles to grams). If you were comfortable with the math in chemistry, this is no different. You can google "dimensional analysis" and find lots of examples. We used it in this class for things like converting grams to milligrams, liters to milliliters, and hours to minutes, etc.

The class went over chapters 1-12 of the book Dimensional Analysis for Meds (one of our required books for fall). The first few chapters just explained how to do very basic math (e.g. addition, multiplication, fractions, decimals) the other chapters were more about reading drug labels and dosing based on labels. If you are concerned, you can look over the sections about reading labels, using syringes, and reconstitution (which is another fancy term that basically means dissolving/diluting).

It sounds like a lot, but it seemed like they were going to go over all of the stuff again in NUR 110. And even though it was a three day class, the third day was only the test. So really it was only two days of a brief overview. So I wouldn't worry about being behind already!

I just got my fingerprints done today does anybody know when they'll be back I'm afraid I won't have them in time

It took two weeks for my results for finger prints to come in, but I believe you can call and possibly expedite them

Might be a silly question, but are we to wear scrubs to class or just clinical? I didn't see it mentioned in the handbook, and contacting South Campus is like getting in touch with the President.

I believe you just wear scrubs to clinicals. I'm sure they will go over all of that at the orientation
