hello...

im sooo depress today for not having any good news career wise..

i have applied for 3 jobs online last week..i followed up with the 2 of them today..one said that it usulally would take several weeks for them to sort through all the resumes..and they would be the one calling me if they want me...the other job that i have applied is days (7a-7p) since i have a daughter and shes on daycare, the recruiter said that right now what they have are all nights...and asif these are not enough bad news, day care called up saying that they are taking all part time children off their list. i am working agency and thus i just put my daughter part time since its not everyday that i get any assignments..actually since i started working ina an agency i only have been given one assignment in a nursing home and it was very traumatic for me...now i dontknow what to do..savings are dwindling, i have a 2 year old ,im pregnant (7 months) and jobless (as agency nursing is assignments are so rare these days)..my situaton is just making me soo desperate..i have been offered nursing home jobs but i feel like im not cut out for that but i might think about it again in the situation that i am in right now.....thanks for reading this..im just so depress right now that i could go ventng on and on...

I'm sorry to hear you're in dire straights and I hope things look up for you soon.

Also, sorry to hear you're turning down jobs. With you being pregnant job offers are hard to come by I'm sure. If you are offered the job, then you are cut out for it in their eyes. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. You don't have to do it forever. That's my two cents. Sorry if it's way off base.

Anyway, feel free to vent all you need to. Best of luck.

I understand where you're coming from-but please don't turn down jobs. When my kids were small, and when I was preggers with the last two (of three)-I was a certified surgical tech, but since I couldn't do OR hours (after daycare and ins., I earned 50$ a week for full-time)-so, I went inot the nursing support staff float pool. This meant that I did everything from doing the L&D O.R. to being a "sitter" to being a unit tech (the absolute lowest on our hosp. food chain) I also did staffing, CNA duties, anything to keep a paycheck. When I scheduled to work, or was called in, I stayed for as long as they would let me. I am in no way bragging or doing a "war Story" I am trying to say that you need to do whatever will provide for you and your kids. Please don't turn down jobs-it doesn't sound like you have much of a choice. I wish you the best of luck and many blessings......

Inwyte,

Jobs here in Jax are not very good right now. I am also with agency plus have a full time job and just cannot seem to get any overtime. I am actually starting to travel next month b/c of the situation here in Jax. I know this does'nt help at all but at least you know, you are not alone. :stone

Good Luck

Move to Arkansas...we can use you.

thats what i think too...i just relocated from tn and the first time i submitted an application there iwas hired that same day..unlike here that i have to wait i dont know how long before having ajob...and ithought nursing shortages are nationwide and bad...and its not that i dont want to work that is why im turning down jobs..i just dont want to work in a nursing home as it left me depress and miserable ...and i dont want to be a job-hopper too...i want somethin that truly interests me to make me stick onto the job--med-surg floor,icu..onco..is this asking too much?

rn kitty if you have any job opening in the hospital youre working im interested..i can work full/part time 12 hours /days..thanks

School nurses are being listed here in the want ads. And then there are doctors' offices, medical coding, triage by phone (that used to go to the pregnant nurses).Oncology infusion clinic. My hubs doctor seems to have about 30 infusion nurses. It is the happiest medical facility I have ever seen. How about dialysis. Did anyone relocate with you, another nurse maybe. Two people can share one position. Bottom line is yes there is a shortage, but TPTB want to weasel out of doing the right thing and hiring nurses.

P_RN whered you get that want ads?..how come that one the reaces my hand only hire for long term care and nursing homes?...doctors offices would be good...can you pass that one to me? :) thanks

I agree with Tweety, being pregnant is one reason why facilities are reluctant to hire you. Against the law=Yes. Done all of the time=Yes. LTC can be and often is depressing, but if you need the work and can get it, then look at the job as a short term fix only. Have you considered some day care work of your own? It may not pay much but its money. Good luck.

Just a thought, but if you're 7 months pregnant, and you're getting insurance benefits at your current job, it might not be wise to change jobs until you have the baby. You'll need that insurance coverage when you have the baby...I wouldn't risk COBRA'ing, or going agency with no insurance, or having a waiting period for new coverage. You've only got 2 months of work in you (at the most) until you can take 6 weeks off post-partum...surely you can stay put until then?
