Care plans-Useful tool or evil spawn of Satan

Fellow sufferrers,

Do you think anyone has ever anticipated a nursing diagnosis?

"Looks like my patient could be bummed out about the six-months-to-live thing Frank, I'm just waiting for the nursing diagnosis so I can write my consult."

No,not likely.

Or how about.

"once he was diagnosed with emphysema,it was only a matter of time before we had the breakthrough about his inability to clear secretions being related to his dyspnea...........If it wasn't for the fact they take common sense and try to twist it into an aberration of English syntax to make it look like rocket science.....well,we never would have stumbled upon the pursed lip breathing teaching either.brilliant! "

I know,I know, care plans build a foundation of whatever.......well,why can't nurses just treat those problems with accepted courses of action.

For instance:

DX of COPD TX course,

Ensure adequacy of secretion clearence.

Teach orthopnic breathing with emphasis on pursed lip method for use in times of exertion/distress.

Monitor for cyanosis,wheezing,rales,disorientation...ETC

Who needs to have a philisophical methodology to do that?

All you need is a list of "interventions" for each disease.

Individualized care?......Sure as heck is,that individual has COPD:p ,I don't need to involve his childhood for gawds sakes!!

Does anyone else feel like a pet psychic? I think I'll have trouble convicing anybody(especially myself)that this is helping me learn something of value.

Why waste time with science courses in pre reqs? Why not just require full-on psych courses?

Glad I could get you all pumped up for clinicals

:rotfl: Thanks Peeps & the gang for a good laugh I need today...

Satan: "hmm, how can I torture these already on the verge students and push them one step closer..." "Muhahahaah I've got it!....." :angryfire

:lol2: Happy care planning and studying y'all!

then you go to NP school and we learn a lot of the nursing dx(Nanda) is a lot of drivel: wordy wordy wordy.

We write dx:medical and nursing, but the nursing ones are short

and to the point

I can't believe this post! Every one of you are so quick and funny today! Is it a full moon?? What a wonderful end to a good, hard week. I am due to graduate in about 7 weeks from LPN school. We have to do one care plan a week and I think it's pretty simple to think about what this pt's DX would be and what I would do. But they are time consuming. That's the thing that gets me the most. Half the time, the interventions dont apply to my pt because I got them AFTER the acute phase or they are going to be dc'd tomorrow. Maybe they did those things, maybe they didn't. I will just be glad when I won't have to do them or my Student Worksheets anymore and figure out my own way of prioritizing my pt's and my day. Have a good weekend all!

LOL! I hated careplans as a student. They may be useful when nurses are just beginning, but after a while, you really don't need them and the language in them is absolutely ridiculous!

all i can say is nic and noc goes lot quicker in the real world of nursing than in school.........

Peeps ! I'm starting to feel the same way, :chuckle

:rotfl: and you thought Life-Span class was the highlight of nursing school :rotfl:

Funny you should mention Care Plan's.......... EVIL TWIN!!

Not funny .......Ha,Ha, but funny as in.....Uhmm? That one 3 credit Life Span class seems to have more bearing on the foundation than the other 16 credits in non-psych?

I heard that if you play the first class lecture tape backwards, you can hear a demonic voice saying " "You are all now total wussies! You are now forgetting objective science and embracing social work. You will cry at the sight of oatmeal, which is good for your pt's regularity, and shun medical diagnosis and replace it with lengthy diatribes of needless ad copy for nursing promotion. When someone outside the evil empire asks what the hell it means, you must reply with ....."it builds my critical thinking skills".........When you have become a soci........uhmm,a nurse, you will not speak of it to anyone, and burn all remaining evidence of your torture.............that is all.

I played it backwords on maximim volume and I swear you could hear that quite clearly.................then the instructor asked me to please take a 5 minute break and see if I could pull myself together................................I think I may be in the exauhstion stage of the General Adaptation Syndrome from all the psych stuff............I have to go now:o ..........:sniff: .my oatmeal is done.......bwaaaah:bluecry1: ...........:uhoh3:

:rotfl:

nownow, be a good lil student....
