I'm a new grad and still have not found a job. Ive applied to about 6-8 hospitals. I havent gotten any interviews or anything yet . Most hospitals are saying to wait till the new year. I was thinking of doing something in the meantime..but Im not sure what would be good to go into? If you have any ideas ...your insight is greatly appreciated.

i don't know what your background is, maybe as a cna, ward clerk, even a transporter...
i believe i would keep trying with hospitals, long term care, assisted living etc because you will lose skills quickly if you don't get into the action as soon as possible

Do you have to stay in the area you are in? Maybe try a different city that is close to you.

I worked at a church for about 7 months after I graduated. I finished nursing school, passed nclex and got my RN, and just wanted a break. I worked at a church for a small wage, and really liked it. Fortunately, my financial position afforded me that, and I'm so glad I did. It was a nice vacation from anything nursing related! I applied to a few hospitals and got hired on after that. Honestly, I'm missing the low key, minimal stress of the church setting!
I live in the phila. area. I am not looking to relocate. I don't have any experience as a CNA etc. I tried to apply for a nursing assistant job and other areas..but most places won't hire me b/c I am lookingmto have the job only short term and b/c im "over qualified"..b/c i do have my nursing license. Thanks for all the ideas so far, they are really helpful!

Travel!
Ok, Ok, I am biased as I have worked in many locations and love being a "traveling nurse". But that avenue might be able to get you working quickly, and allow you to work on some shorter term contracts as well.
Just a thought!

I am in the same position as you are. New grad nurse, already passed my boards, and now just waiting for a position to open up. I found a per diem job doing wellness clinics. It is very easy stuff like blood pressure screenings, flu shot clinics, cholesterol/glucose checks, etc. Usually we travel to a work site and set up shop and go to work! I asked some veteran nurses what kind of per diem work they did and one of them suggested this specific company. It's not a clinic per say, but community nursing definetly.
