I think the inability to follow some VERY simple and VERY specific test-taking rules--and doing this is incredibly important to your ability to earn a future livelihood--is telling of someone who should not be given an RN (or PN)'s responsibility over someone's life. Time for weeding.

Really. If you can't follow the very simple and very well spelled out rules of testing, how the heck are you going to follow a facility's P&P? If your judgment is so poor that you can't avoid looking like you're cheating, well, I'm going to allnurses Godwin's law this: I don't want you taking care of my family members.

I'd almost have more respect if you were trying to cheat and got caught than if you're just too dumb to avoid looking like you're cheating.

Brain dumping is when they give you the white board or scratch paper and you start writing down stuff like lab values or those cute little saying like Cold and clammy need some candy hot and dry sugar too high.

After that guy did that and was shown the door, I felt like I had swallowed peanut butter and sand. The three of us left in the room, was told "brain dumping" is cheating.

How in the world is that cheating? They got the information from only their brain!!! I would have fought that tooth and nail.

I think it was because we were all sitting in the waiting area before being called back to the testing area. He could have shown us or we could have looked at his scratch paper. I don't know, but I sure couldn't remember my name after that. My heart was coming out of my chest.

It's one of their rules and if you're brain dumping, you're providing notes for yourself prior to the start of the exam. Whether you bring the notes in or create them immediately before the exam starts, that's still dumping/cheating.

This I find utterly absurd. The notes were HIS notes, and came out of HIS HEAD. It isn't cheating by any STRETCH of the imagination to remind oneself of one's OWN notes AFTER one enters the testing room.

Still.

If this is the rule, it's the rule.

The thing that students seem to get hung up on (hang themselves??) is that they argue whether a rule is stupid. And NO ONE CARES what YOU think is stupid!!

The bottom line is whether one person considers the rule stupid, five people consider it stupid, or 100 people consider it stupid, it's the BON who gets to consider whether your DISRESPECT for said stupid rule is enough to keep a person from getting a license.

WHEN will students aka New Grads realize that they are being tested WHILE they are being tested on the NCLEX? WHEN will they realize that THEIR interpretation of a 'stupid rule' is completely irrelevant?

I'm hearing a Bob Dylan song about now......

I'm also wondering what it takes to "cancle" someone's test.

Over-tired, I think.....

"Stupid is as stupid does:-Forest Gump!

But RNsRWe are right. We sign a paper that spells out the rules. It doesn't say "Interpret at will" It says "these are the rules, you must agree to follow them" and you cannot take ANYTHING into the testing room in the way of notes. 'brain dumping' in the lobby means you are carrying something into the room with notes. Thus-cheating!

and.....you got it.

Prize awarded!

I think cancle results and different trick are all on the same test. Those words are used to test our cultural competency!

oops...inner snarkmonster took over my keyboard again.
