You broke the rules by accessing the diary. Your lucky you have the option to cancel your result rather than cancel and bar you from retesting. If you think you can be successful appealing then do so but it really depends on what the staff member wrote in the incident report.

The rules are clear in the application packet and you are required to review the rules when you register for the exam

Others who violated the rules have reported their result was cancelled and they were barred by the BoN from retesting for 1-2 years and had to write an appeal to the BoN to gain permission to resit the exam for licensing.

Did you look through the diary? Was there information relating to your exam in the diary or was it just a diary with dates? I think your post is interesting, what if someone had a phone and checked for messages? Is that banned too?

When you take your test, you have to show them you turned it off and it gets sealed in a bag. You CANNOT access your phone during the test, not even during breaks. If you do, you run the risk of them cancelling your results.

Specializes in Emergency, Tele, Med Surg, DOU, ICU.

The rules for taking the test are simple. They make you read them before the test. If in doubt always ask!!

It seems a few get caught up in the moment and ignore/forget these simple but far reaching rules.

Believe me i wont! Not now! I will be terrified to leave my desk! So tell me more! Do they have coffee facilities cos i wont be taking a pack lunch! Just me and the clothes on my back

Last person that didn't seal their phone and was caught with their cell not only had their results cancelled but also barred from retesting for 2 years by the BoN. It's pretty clear no cell phone access (hence why off and sealed in bag), no access to papers or books.

They may take the position that there could have been a piece of paper with info removed.

The answer for those preparing to sit the NCLEX. Read the rules. Follow the rules. Do your best and all will be well

Depends on the center. Where I tested they did not. There was a lobby coffee shop and vending machines where my friend tested. I finished quickly to run up to the boardwalk to get my caffeine fill from Starbucks. I was nervous so I was afraid the coffee would run right through me while testing. ;)

I will be nervous!

They made me remove my headband! That was bad because if my hair gets loose, I tend to play with it when I'm nervous, An attendant sat and watched us the whole time. When it was our turn to take a break, they escorted us (one at a time only) to the bathroom. We were not allowed to access our lockers at all. Some people brought snacks, they took them into the testing room, but not until they were checked by the attendants to be sure no cheat sheets were hidden in them. People wearing glasses had them thoroughly checked to be sure there was no electronic devise attached to them. I really do get it that they want to eliminate cheating, but at our test center we were told we couldn't even remove our shoes. I guess someone got caught with notes in their shoes once. I am surprised by the person that got to go to a lobby coffee shop, we were not allowed to go past the reception desk once the test started.
