I am in the middle of my 2nd semester of the ADN program at a CA community college. Can I get a job as a CNA? Do I need to take an exam? Can a student RN get a job as a LPN at any time during school? Thanks for your comments.

There is a course, usually about 4 months, plus an exam to become a CNA.
An LPN has to go through nursing school, too, and pass the NCLEX-PN.
Some hospitals or LTC facilities have positions open for caregivers or uncertified nurse assistants, which require some training within the facility but no degree.

You can challenge the CNA exam and become certified. do a google search on your state regs. i know i can be a cna in FL after my first semester since it preps me for the exam.

I am taking a 3 week class to become a CNA this summer, and hope to work part time when I start nursing school this fall!
Is it possible to find time to work as a CNA during NS? I have no clue...

At my school, you can sit for the LPN exam after your first year. You do have to take a few extra clinicals in the summer (I think about three weeks here). I guess it would depend on your school.

Here in OK we can work as "nurse partners" after the 1st semester of NS with no additional schooling or clinicals. Think it all depends on your state and/or facilities.

You can contact the certifying authority to find out the procedure to take the CNA exam. Since you are in CA, the state allows challenge of the LVN NCLEX with sufficient education/experience. Go to the BVNPT website to find the criteria. This avenue for licensure is dependent upon the cooperation of your school. Although allowed by the state, you can not do it if your school refuses to sign off on your application. Ask your program director if they will sign off on your application after you have downloaded it from the website and checked out what the requirements are. Some schools cooperate and others refuse. Good luck.

I'm in school in NJ and after one semester at my county college, I am eligible to sit for the CNA license exam for the state of NJ. My one semester waives any CNA program.
Check with your school and see what they say.
