Can I become a nurse in California if I was convicted of child porn possession in the state?

Nurses Criminal

Let's say I was convicted of the charge and served my sentence but have to register as a sex offender for life. Can I still be a nurse if I have recommendation from a psychologist or other health professionals as evidence of rehabilitation?

Operative word is may. As someone mentioned before, most if not all schools graduation is contingent upon completion of pediatric rotations. All schools I know run background checks on students and I’m thinking pedophilia ranks highly among the exclusion criteria. Nonetheless, there could be exceptions to the rule, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on it.

My comment was meant for if they even made it that far. Most schools are not doing any "in person" clinicals having gone virtual, so OP may have found a loophole for that. Just wanted to let them know that graduating was no guarantee of being able to approach licensure

It doesn't really matter if you were "into" it. If you got it and it was incriminating enough to result in a conviction and you are a registered sex offender, there isn't any arguing with that. The BON in pretty much any state is going to see you as being a risk to the general public from a legal standpoint and not someone who should be licensed. I'd suggest finding a different line of work. Good luck.

I would be pretty shocked if a school accepted them with this conviction.

Me too, but stranger things have happened...

I was agreeing with you. Apologies if it did not come across that way. It is indeed possible to find loopholes. Additionally, some of these schools are primarily motivated by economic factors and might be willing to overlook certain things. Thankfully, there are other roadblocks that ensure patients receive delivery of care from prudent providers.

Interesting and quite unfortunate. The Media you received from your friends was unsolicited? Best of luck in your endeavors.

Honestly, this didn't really happen to me. A friend of mine has a husband who got in trouble for this. I believe he had some friends overseas who were trading obscene materials with him which he got busted for. He's not a pervert nor did he enjoy the videos of children being abused. This occurred years ago and doesn't really have anything to do with me or nursing. I apologize.

I'm confused. You used the first person pronouns in your previous post.

But it is someone else? Anyway, be as it may, if he was neither a pervert nor enjoyed the videos, then why did he trade obscene materials with his friends? These are questions that he will certainly be asked when he applies for school or licensure.

I was putting myself in his shoes. His husband told me he is a bit of a "people-pleaser" and wanted attention from these friends that were giving him the Media. Anyway, the person who this happened to is retired, in his 70s, and has a 6 figure pension so obviously no interest in becoming a nurse.

So why did you post about it on a nursing site?

If that is the case, why did you solicit advice here?

It's because I had posted on this website years ago after being kicked out of a clinical rotation and many of the responses I received were upsetting to me. I wanted to see how people would react to this post since this is a sensitive subject matter for a lot of people. I know it really isn't the place for this. I would delete the post.
