Can I apply for license in other state and retake NCLEX earlier?

Nursing Students NCLEX

I just took NCLEX today and I went all the way to 265.... I did not mentally prepare for so many question like this... The last question was easy and not even a priority question..I am not even sure I get it right ... I heard it is possibly the last question that determine your passing.. In contrast to before taking the test, I am in hypothyroid state right now...

I wish I could just took the Prozac that my mother has and go to sleep but I couldn't find the bottle... I just bought a gallon of milk and that's all I will eat for the next 48 hr.

MY question is this... in Georgia, the waiting period to retake the test is 90 days... Can I reapply for license in other state that allow me to retake in 45 days. I heard about COMPACT license that allow you to work in so many states, which may include Georgia? so that I can begin to work earlier...I am at risk of losing my job at this point... I got to talk to my manager when I know my result ...

90 days is a long time to wait...

Can you at least find out for sure that you fail before you start stressing about having to take the exam again?

You're making me panic too!!!! We all feel the same way you do, I studied for months leading up to NCLEX with various methods and I felt as dumb as you described if not worse when I left! We all feel this way after we take that test! I have not talked to one person who walked out of the exam feeling confident and knowing they passed. This feeling of being in limbo is the worst I know but many people have passed in 265! So try to relax! Easier said then done, I know. When I came home from taking the test I googled "Failed the NCLEX at 75" and read peoples posts, and sure enough it made me feel sick!!! Duh....

If you just want to calm yourself down about the status of your job, just call a nurse recruiter or someone from the HR department. The unit educator at my new job called me after the exam and was helpful in calming me down. They've mostly all been there so they uderstand.

And hey, stop popping pills I want to sleep for two days too but think of all the creppy side effects you could have. Although I am a big fan of benedryl, it's the only thing that helps my allergies. (I am immune to it's sedative powers!!!) Try tea, I hear good things, or a boring movie! I think I'm going shopping or seeing movies today just to keep my mind off of it!!!!!

There was a recent post from someone who passed and had 200+ questions, so you many not be down for the count yet. Take care.

Quite a few have passed with 265.

Hey yall. I too was in the same shoes--I just knew I failed. I cried over and over and over. I was so sure I even called my nurse recruiter before I even got my results. I kept hearing that if I had 265 I was "still in the game" yet hadn't yet proved myself so I got all the questions. I was sick at the thought of not making it. I didn't hardly sleep the four long days and nights. I told anyone that asked that I failed and had to retake it. Another problem was that I was above average on everything and couldn't see why I did so bad on this. Well, long story short----I passed!

It looks as if everyone feels sooo sooo sooo bad after the test. A lot feel like it is do or die but those feelings will go away. Like two hours before I got my results I was finally content in knowing that I would take it again---so I hit the books, yes I was studying when I found out I passed!

Don't give up and please---wait for your results before you freak!

Atlanta please calm down!:uhoh3: Wait for your results before you freak and dont worry about the job now. I panicked after I failed too I had 265 on 6/23 but after a few hours of crying I was content to take it again and actually glad I had it over with. Ill never have to have a 2st time not knowing what to expect nclex experience ill be less nervouse. The same thing happened when I took my Nursing Entrance Exam We need a 70 to pass and I got a 68 so close again but I was so panicked I failed. I took it a month later and passed with an 80 because I wasnt nervouse because I knew what to expect. Dont freak about ure job until you talk to them. In thought for sure I was fired because I was supposed to start 2 weeks later on july 11th but they were toatally fine ans say it happens all the time. They pushed back my orientation until august 15th after i retake on august 10th and even assured me that if I dont pass again Ill start as a tech and work as that till i do pass. try to keep calm till you get ure results. NO PILL POPPING!:angryfire And if you do fail it wnt be the end of the world .....trust me i kno

I'm glad that you can take it again soon and begin your orientation..

In Georgia, it take longer even if I want to take it somewhere else. The paperwork will take times.... so, I don't know what to tell the nurse manager if I can't start until the next 3 months..... This hospital recruit new grads into intership on a specific period... so I don't even know that it can be pushed back...

Hi, Atlanta

I know exactly how you feel. I took mine on 7/15 and unfortunately my State is not one of the ones that participate in the quick result service so I'm tortured to know if I pass or not. I keep checking the BON website to find my name but to date my name is not up. I'm thinking that we probably had the same set of questions....I got so thrown away because I felt I was not ready for it although I've dedicated myself in studying almost everyday for 2 monhts prior to my exam. I tell you no books or review materials can really prepare you for it. I was in shock even when I got my first question. Bunch of prioritizing questions. Mine stopped at 192 and of course my last question was a priority questions which I'm not even sure if I answered right. I had a feeling that the computer sort of know that this category is my weakest that's why it kept spitting this type of questions and I think it shut off because it gave up on me :crying2: .

I'm so worried too because I have been hired at the hospital I wanted to work at and finished with the new grad orientation. I have been on the unit for 3 days now doinng my department orientation with a preceptor. Althugh I feel overwhelmed with things I have to know I really want to keep my job. My nursing director is aware that I have already taken my board and she believes that I pass. At this point I don't know what they will do if I fail. Sorry my reply is too long. I hope we both pass the board (I'm hoping by the end of this week my result is up...be pass or fail...I just wanna know so I can go on with my next move...MAYBE STUDY MORE!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your reply.

You are in better game than me 192.... I hope you passed.. you will... one of my friend got 150 and passed... My last question is NOT a priority question and VERY easy.. I don't feel very good about it... Deep breath!! Tommorrow is the date of the result...... Thre are 2 things I gonna do... First, Check the result... Second, go to the hospital in person and talk to the nurse manager... If I pass, it would be wonderful... If I fail, then I will talk to the manger about the possibility of extending the start date..... If both of the tasks cannot be fullfilled.. then it's OVER... I will quit my tech job and stay home... No point of keep working there if I won't have the job of my dream after passing.

BUT Nevertheless, I will retake the exam to prove that I can make it too... I would rather be an RN with no job rather than not being one.....at least, that's what we went to school for...

Thank you for your reply.

Let's just hope we pass. At least you will find out sooner...so hold on and take a deep breath. I feel the dsame way as you..I've asked my preceptor yesterday about what they will do to me if I fail and she said normally they will let me work as a Tech until I pass the board...But i have mixed feelings about that...I'm not belittling the Tech's job but that is not what I went to school for. I went to school to become an RN and I think I'd rather concentrate on studying to pass the board than working for something that I don't feel like doing ( I'm sure a lot of people will raise their brows for me saying this...hey, we all have our opinions and like what I've said I'm not belitting them)....On the other hand, what if working as a Tech gives me job security????? I guess I'll stress on that when I get my result...I just hope we both pass so we don't have to make a "take it or leave it" choice...Let me know how yours went....

If I were you, I would be glad to work as a tech to "KEEP" my prospective job. I may request my manager to do it PRN so that I can have more time off to prepare for NCLEX. I guess once you are an employee (a tech or intern), it will be easier for human resouce to slide you up to RN positon very quickly after you passed........

But I am sure you will pass coz your last question is a priority question... and you only got 192.... and you didn't get 265 so it doesn't matter what your last question is...

Atlanta does take part in a 45 day waiting period. It is relatively new and probably unnessasary. Good luck and keep us posted. Denham

Hey.Denham0607. I appreciate your information... Just for clarification.. Wating period = waiting time to retake NCLEX again... Atlanta is the city, not my username...right?

What you mean that waiting time to retake NCLEX in Atlanta, Georgia is now 45 days? I thought the waiting time to retake NCLEX in "GEORGIA" was 90 days... 3 months... and I heard they are very slow on paperwork processing... And some of my friends who failed on January have to wait 3 months.. some went to other states to take in 45 days. By far, I haven't found the information on the internet that confirm this yet... I guess I will call board of nursing tommorrow...
