Salary to expect as a new grad nurse
I am a new grad and live in Atlanta. Most hospitals pay between 18.50-24 $ an hour. Of course the northeastern US and California pay more because of the cost of living. Only one hospital offered a sign on and some paid loans.

Did You Get A Sign On Bonus?
I live about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta. My classmates are dispersed all around Atlanta from rural to downtown. No body was offering sign on bonuses for new grads. Except on hospital, which no one wanted to work for. In fact, many hospitals still require a commitment and if you break the commitment than you are out of money. These same hospitals are however offering large bonuses for resigning after the original contract is up.

What shift was your first job?
I am a new grad and am fortunate to have recieved a day shift. I am working 7a-7p on a cardiac unit. For the most part my friends all went to specialty areas and of course are not able to get the desired areas. ER is either 11a-11p or 3p-3a at best as is L&D. Good luck and to all that do their senior practicum a day shift is easy to swing if you stay on that unit because they know you and usually want to keep you.

Let's introduce ourselves...
I am a new grad in Georgia. Graduated in May and passed my boards on July 14 I started my orientation to a Cardiac unit two shifts ago and so far so good. I feel slightly awkward growing a relationship with my preceptor only because it is in the beginning. However, I believe that this will be a great floor to grow on and get a good footing in my new career.

Saturday test takers - when do you find out your results? Tues or Wed
You should find out Monday exactly 48 hours from the end of your exam. My friend did and she took it in Atlanta. :)

Can I apply for license in other state and retake NCLEX earlier?
Atlanta does take part in a 45 day waiting period. It is relatively new and probably unnessasary. Good luck and keep us posted. Denham

Delegating care and responsibility
Just a reminder. The RN cant delegate assessment, nursing judgement, or education. This will help you when answering your questions. They delegate tasks that have expected outcomes and standard procedures.

Am I ready?
I took Kaplan and scored 60's and low 70's on their tests. I would suggest to you to purchase Saunders Q and A. It is worth it. Those tests were in my situation the truest form to the actual test. There is about 3000 questions and a comprehensive test as well. On the tests in that book I was getting mid 70's to mid 80's. GOOD LUCK

Passed!!!
I wanted to tell everyone that the agonizing wait is over!!! Thank you for your support. My advice to those that are waiting is DONT LOOK UP ANSWERS. I did it in 75 questions and I truely felt horrible about it. GOOD LUCK to those that are waiting. :balloons:

studying for NCLEX, how long?
I studyed for a solid month for the test. I worked maybe 5 days inbetween, but even then i did at least two hours after work. I took a Kaplan prep class and used Saunders which was great. I studyed about 6 total hours a day spread out and I took my test yesterday and had 75 questions. I felt that studying as much as I did was helpful but maybe overkill. The reason I say that is because you still see stuff that is a complete guess and is in some way new kinds of questions. Look at your study rituals and determine what makes you confident and go from there. -Nicole

Freeeeeeeeeaking out!
Hello, i took the test on the 14th and am more nervous now than before the freakin thing. I got 75 questions and felt as though some questions were managable and others were educated guesses between two not so wonderful choices. I am absolutely terrified to find out the results. Which by the way will be tomorrow at 10:30 and to make it worse I am supposed to be at work. Waiting in Atlanta... Good Luck to you

the "herbs" on NCLEX?
I took the NCLEX yesterday and i had three questions. One was about the use of garlic with blood thinners, another was about black cohosh and hot flashes, and the last was about ginko. Good luck.

Taking The Nclex-rn Tomorrow 7/15
Hello, i took the NCLEX today and who knows how i did. I received 75 questions and felt confident when i left the building. However as the hours are ticking by, i keep doubting my choices and the whole day is like a blur. I would give you this advice, calm down, read carefully and trust in your instincts. My test was mainly priority, chest tube, isolation, and herbs??? :uhoh21: Good luck and i hope we will both become nurses this week.
