Can we discuss Nursing caps and Hairstyles?

Published

I am graduating in May! YAY! We will be doing our pictures after returning from spring break, so I have gotten all the things required, including my cap. I have no idea how to wear my hair with this thing, down, part up, part down, all up?! The picture will hang on the college hall walls for years to come, so I am a little obsessed with not looking like an idiot. lol I tried doing a google search, and Pinterest but really did not come up with much. Anyone have any ideas they care to share?

You're doing CAPS??? Do you mean an actual nursing cap? Or just a mortar board/tassel thingy? At any rate, a "professional consult" is probably the best way to go. If you go to a local hairdresser, with your cap in tow, they can help you figure out what to do.

We had a capping ceremony and later a pinning at graduation. I took my cap to the stylist who designed a style with the cap and taught me how to secure it so I would be the one who walked up on stage leaving my cap behind.

You cam wear your hair however you want. Some of my classmates wore their hair down.

I'm poor so that's not really an option! Lol But yes we have actual nursing caps for pictures and pinning we have to wear, along with an entirely white uniform. I was just trying to find some inspiration, especially since the cap looks goofy on me.

Try a beauty school often low cost. I went to a Paul Mitchell affiliate school locally. Great deal and directly supervised by licensed professionals.

I would defer to your school. See if they have a preference. In the old days we had to wear our hair up and off the collar. Get plenty of bobby pins to keep it on.

I for one am glad there are still schools that at least take pictures to the old tradition.

Up & off the collar was a requirement for us too, no visible "hair jewelry" (rhinestoned bobby pins, flowers, bows, barrettes, etc)

We have no hair requirement from what I have seen in the past, and no mention of it when we were told about pics. Which honestly I found odd since the rest of the uniform has to be clinical appropriate, but perhaps they realized that was a losing battle! :)

I agree about tradition, in fact I bought a scrub dress for the occasion!

Our pictures was the only time we had the option of touching a hat. They were community so good thing no one had lice. I wore mine down. It looked the best for me. I think the next best option would be a low pony tail as the caps could interfere.

We pinned our hats with paper clips because no one had bobby pins. Then after four people went, the photographer told us to have a person hold the hat down with a finger and he could edit them out.

Caps? As a male I wouldn't even show up to graduation if I had to wear one.

I am actually surprised there are still schools that require this for graduation. I graduated in 2006 and we did not wear caps at the pinning ceremony. Even as a woman I would feel weird wearing a cap, as it does not represent me as a nurse at all
