Calling all Truman College Nursing Students

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi,

Are there any nursing students from Truman on here? Past or present. I have some questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on their website.

1. Is the admission still "lottery system" based? How would that exactly work? I saw on their website that they award points on GPA (ex: "4 X 4 = 16 pts for an A in A&P"). If it's a lottery, how come they look at GPA?

2. What GPA did you have when you got in? Are you a current or past student?

3. If it's GPA based, I think I'll have more luck getting in like that than the lottery. One last thing I wanted to ask, would any of you Truman students, past or present, be willing to sell or let me borrow your notes from Truman's Nursing School? I know you might think I'm trying to find an easy way out or cheat or something. What I really want to do, since I have the summer off, is to study ahead. I have done this in the past with Anatomy and Physiology and it has helped me tons. That's just how I learn. When I have free time, I just like to look at things from a non rushed way. Once school starts, I'll have 17 credit hours of classes and plus work. I will also be studying ahead for Microbiology and A&P this summer so I can really have a lot of time to digest the material.

*Please if you know anyone that would let me use their notes, contact me and I'll work someting out with them. :specs:

Thanks

Hi Irinasal :)

From what you said about the parking lot by lake I understand that there is no time limit there? If so how do you pay or where do you pay? Any response would be greatley appreciated. Thank you so much:)

there are meters all over the parking lot. they are different than your regular meter, and it gives you the option to pay for as many hours at a time but no refunds. Then you must display it on your window , just like in any other place.

hopefully this helps

Thank you Irinasal for your quick response :)

Hey I was looking at the ranking system, and I was wondering if anyone got in without taking all the co-req classes.

I'm taking Eng 101 and Math 118 right now in the summer, and was planning on taking Bio 121 and Chem 121 in the fall, and possibly A&P if they let me take it without completing 121 first.

I already have my CNA cert and I am also going to the Info session next month.

Does anyone know if Truman has the FINAL BOOK LIST ready? I have been calling the Nursing Department for the last couple of days and no one has been answering and I also called the main school number and no answer there either ): They said they would have it by the end of June.

You can get in without taking all the co-reqs, but you have a better chance of getting in if you've taken all of them. I was in the same situation two years ago wondering if I should apply without having many classes done. I finally decided it would be better to take that year and complete all the classes and then apply the next year.

You should definitely try applying, but don't get discouraged if you don't get in. Realize that many people have taken all the pre-reqs and co-reqs and there are probably only a few that haven't.

Thanks for the reply, I'll probably aply for 2011, and then if I don't get in, I'll try again after the Co-Reqs

I found out that the final book list will not be ready by possibly the end of July :( What a bummer!

I went to Truman and purchased the first bundle: IT IS HUGE, I feel so intimidated, just by looking at the amount of information we would need to process in this coming year.

I am searching for a GREAT pair of white shoes....Any suggestions ?

They have the first bundle ready? What's included in it (the two lists from orientation or are there more books)?

I don't think we'll need it all for the first year. I heard you actually end up using a lot of the books for second year also. I was going to get an expensive pair of shoes, but I figured we would only need them for one day out of the week. I'm think we'll probably spend a hefty price on the stethoscope. Do you know or does anyone else on here know which model of the Littmann they want us to get?

They have the bundle on the green paper- the more expensive one which includes among many other books nursing assessment and pharmacology.....i don't have the list with me right now to tell you exactly the titles. The $300 bundle is not yet in, however , they said it is another bundle there available, which was not given to us, but they said it is required. I bought it, they told me not to open it yet in case I want to return it. It was about 70 dollars and it contains a nurse drug guide and something else- did not pay attention to it but it looks like something to practice for NCLEX.

About the stethoscope, they did not specify which one they want, however, from this thread, I learned from a second year student that we should not go cheap on these and go ahead and purchase a good one, as some they are selling at the store (i assume the school store ) are not very good. I am looking up online for good stethoscopes, and I am thinking of getting one from Welch Allyn, they are expensive , but I am thinking I will be using one for a very long time. If anyone has better suggestions, let me know, please.

hello everyone,

regarding the stethoscope i'm probably getting a littmann. i have been reading the reviews and it sounds very good. moving on, today i dropped off the required paperwork due in august 1. they told me that if something was missing that they would email me or call me in a week. i hope they don't wait to the last minute because it's going to be difficult to get labs; they take like 2 weeks to get back! i hope everything goes well. also, today i heard from a friend who is a ccc adn graduate that they are going to stop giving the hesi as a graduation requirement. i did some research on this website and it's true, well part of it! if you search it you can see what's going on with the hesi from older nursing students. apparently they are abolishing the test for 2005-2010 graduates and they are giving them the opportunity to graduate and take the nclex! i am so happy that this happened because i think i thought it was an injustice and it gives me hope for our 2012 class. i'm sure we will hear about the final decision when we go back to school. think positive thoughts everyone!!
