Calling all Truman College Nursing Students

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi,

Are there any nursing students from Truman on here? Past or present. I have some questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on their website.

1. Is the admission still "lottery system" based? How would that exactly work? I saw on their website that they award points on GPA (ex: "4 X 4 = 16 pts for an A in A&P"). If it's a lottery, how come they look at GPA?

2. What GPA did you have when you got in? Are you a current or past student?

3. If it's GPA based, I think I'll have more luck getting in like that than the lottery. One last thing I wanted to ask, would any of you Truman students, past or present, be willing to sell or let me borrow your notes from Truman's Nursing School? I know you might think I'm trying to find an easy way out or cheat or something. What I really want to do, since I have the summer off, is to study ahead. I have done this in the past with Anatomy and Physiology and it has helped me tons. That's just how I learn. When I have free time, I just like to look at things from a non rushed way. Once school starts, I'll have 17 credit hours of classes and plus work. I will also be studying ahead for Microbiology and A&P this summer so I can really have a lot of time to digest the material.

*Please if you know anyone that would let me use their notes, contact me and I'll work someting out with them. :specs:

Thanks

Hi, I just got accepted into the program and start in the Fall. They have used a lottery system for as long as I know and used one this last session that I got into. The information about the ranking system and points is ALL NEW for next year. This was not the case when I applied in January, so the fact that they are using a ranking system now makes me think that they discontinued the lottery, but Im not sure. My GPA was 3.2 and I got a 95 on the compass and all A's in all of the pre-requisite and co-requisite classes and I already have an associates from the city colleges in Arts with Honors. I have a friend that has a 2.8 GPA got an 84 on the compass so she was required to sign up for reading 126 and got all C's in the pre and co-requisites and got in as well, I think that was due to the lottery though. I think that that lottery sucks and am glad they started a ranking system. Why dont you buy the Fundamentals book and start reading it to get a head start? I already bought about $600 worth of the books required off of Amazon and that was only half of them by the way, because I want to get ahead of the game for the Fall! I completely understand you there! I just finished my Micro and A&P II class today and am sooo happy to be off for the summer!!! Are you going to apply for Fall 10??

Congrats on your acception!! :yeah:Did you get the letter today? Yes, I'll be applying for Fall 2010. I can't wait. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time to know that in one year I will know if I got into nursing school.

Wow! $600 already. You got a list from the program? If you don't mind, could you send me the list of books so I can look around and maybe buy some of them? I just finished my A&P I final today and Chem Wed. I don't know if they completely discontinued the lottery because my counselor told me they still had it. I'm kind of confused, but I'll go to the orientation July 09 and I guess I'll find out then. Thanks for replying. Glad to know someone who got in.

Thank you! No i got the letter about a month ago actually! I went to their website and you can look at the syllabus from Nursing 102, there is a book list on it and the books for 101 are the same. You buy the books for 101 and use them throughout the first two semesters(and the rest of the program as well). Are you taking your classes at Truman now? Do you like it? I have never taken a class there.

I'm actually taking classes at Wright. I like it so far. I'm mainly taking the community college route because of cost. I figure, when I become a nurse (hopefully), I'll probably want to further my education and then would be a good time to shell out tons of cash for a Master's. Which community college are you at? If you don't mind me asking, did you apply to other schools? Did you get in? My friend got into Aurora University, a private school, and it's going to cost her like 26K a year. She also applied to some public schools, but I guess it takes them longer to get back to you.

I go to wright too. Well not anymore, I finished my last class yesterday!!! I was taking Anatomy 227 and Micro 233. Who are your teachers and what classes are you/were you taking?? I applied to Daley, Truman and Malcolm x, I got accepted to both Daley and Truman and never recieved a response from malcolm X yet. I plan on finishing at Truman and then having the hospital I gain employment with pay for my BSN and eventually MSN. I was originally going to go to Chamberlain because I already have an associates from the city coolleges and could obtain a BSN in only two years there but the cost was rediculous!!!! Three semesters a year at almost 10,000 each! I thought that was rediculous and hoped that I got into Truman, Im so glad I did!

I took:

Bio 226 (Dr. Popova) She is new.

Chem 201 (Dr. Valentino) Great prof.

Math 125 (Prof.Nadas) Good prof but you kind of had to get some stuff on your own.

Psych 201 (Dr. Mustari) Great prof.

I will be taking in Fall 2009:

Bio 227 (Attiah)

Micro 233 (Herzog)

Psych 224 (Tylka)

Sociology 201 (Hart)

Humanities 201 (Liebman)

Are any of the ones I'll be taking good or bad? I heard Attiah is great. I also heard Herzog is tough, but he's the only prof you can take. What was your experience in his class? Who did you have for Bio 226 and Bio 227? How were the finals-were they 100 questions each? I had 100 qs for Bio226.

That's great that you've decided to take the ADN route and have your employer pay for the rest. I've something like that in mind. $10,000 a semester is crazy. Like my friend who'll be 52K in debt by the time she graduates. I rather start off with no debt and work from there.

I took Attiah for 226 and 227, she is the best professor I have and probably will EVER have. I absolutely adored her and was sad on my last day of class!! I got an A in both classes, thanks to her. She gives lots of extra credit and explains things very well and gives amazing study guides. I just finished Micro with Herzog and got a B. I thought that he was very hard. The tests were insanely difficult, only 4 of them though. You just need to study alot for them, and I mean ALOT. There is no final for 233, and the final for 227 was 100 questions and super easy. I dont know who your other teachers are though.I did hear that Tylka was difficult.

Do you think you would be able to lend me your Bio 227 and Micro 233 notes/handouts/quizes/tests so I can study ahead? I did this for Bio 226. Borrowed the notes from a friend, but she had a different teacher, and it still helped. It was basically the same stuff. I would really appreciate if you would do this.

Truman has a great reputation. They are both accredited, but I would pick Truman over Daley.

Hi All-

I wondered if anyone else who was accepted into Truman's nursing program for Fall 2009 could share their GPA and other factors that helped them get into the program. I am looking to apply for Fall 2010 and would love any feedback or advice.

Thanks!
