Hi,
Are there any nursing students from Truman on here? Past or present. I have some questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on their website.
1. Is the admission still "lottery system" based? How would that exactly work? I saw on their website that they award points on GPA (ex: "4 X 4 = 16 pts for an A in A&P"). If it's a lottery, how come they look at GPA?
2. What GPA did you have when you got in? Are you a current or past student?
3. If it's GPA based, I think I'll have more luck getting in like that than the lottery. One last thing I wanted to ask, would any of you Truman students, past or present, be willing to sell or let me borrow your notes from Truman's Nursing School? I know you might think I'm trying to find an easy way out or cheat or something. What I really want to do, since I have the summer off, is to study ahead. I have done this in the past with Anatomy and Physiology and it has helped me tons. That's just how I learn. When I have free time, I just like to look at things from a non rushed way. Once school starts, I'll have 17 credit hours of classes and plus work. I will also be studying ahead for Microbiology and A&P this summer so I can really have a lot of time to digest the material.
*Please if you know anyone that would let me use their notes, contact me and I'll work someting out with them.
Thanks
4hanna9,
I also remember about the complete blood count. Actually, the only item Not required as far as I remember was the dental. But then again, now I need to check with them and make sure. It would not make any sense to ask one thing the morning class and another the afternoon class.
Anyhow, I need to get these things started, make sure I have everything ready. I guess I am still having UIC on my mind and that is affecting my attention span and probably that is the reason of all these confusions...
Anyone else receive the new book list? Now I am totally confused. Do we need all the extra books? UGH-i bought an itouch and am hoping to put some of the books on it. I don't know if the list originally given to us at orientation is what is really need, and these are supplemental.
Any advise appreciated, thanks.
Hello guys,
I just called the nursing department. You don't need urinalysis, but you do need the CBC. The book list emailed to you is just to help you find the required text books since they have all the the information needed e.g. ISBN number, edition, authors name. Stick to the list of books given during orientation day. Also, if you are wondering, it is not mandatory to have health insurance during the program. You will be responsible for your health in case you get hurt or sick during the program. In case you guys haven't done CPR training I just did mine on Saturday. I did it with CPR associates INC. They have locations in foster and Peterson. They have classes Monday-Saturday. I payed $35 dollars for the class. I honestly believe that we need to help each other, thats the only way we are going to finish this program!!!
Frida,
Thank you for the info....Aslo I received this e-mail that now the parking at the Lake is metered and we will have to pay ...that sucks ! My issue is that if we will have only 2 hour parking rights, like at any chicago meter, it will be impossible to Not get a ticket since the class last 2 hour +getting from the parking lot to the class ( I usually like to get to school early so if they put a limit on the parking, that will not be possible). How do you park at Truman ( for those who drive ?)
Okay so on the packet we were given there is a a clinic listed on there called argyle medical I was asking for prices ( it was very hard to understand this woman she had a very heavy accent but very nice though!)
MMR titer -$50
Varicella titer- $50
Hepatitis B titer- $50
When I go there I will also find out about the two step TB and tetorifice vaccine and CBC
Walk ins are welcome
howard brown walk-in clinic
4025 n. sheridan road, 773-388-1600
free anonymous rapid hiv testing, confidential std screenings for chlamydia and gonorrhea, syphilis testing and treatment, and hepatitis vaccination services are available*
hepatitis vaccination
in this package service you will receive a nurse consultation visit, a combination vaccination against hepatitis a and b, and allow you to be screened for hepatitis c. to be fully vaccinated, it is necessary to return for 2 follow-up visits; the nurse will discuss time-frames with you during your visit.
price = $15.00 (hep c testing additional $7)
So we have less than 2 months to do all this and I have no idea where to start. First of they told us at the orientation that we don't need to do urinalysis and the CBC but now we have to do the CBC? About the health insurance wouldn't it be alot easier and safer for all of us to have mandatory health insurance just like the rest of the other nursing schools? Imagine all the things that we have to do for clinicals and not having a health insurance. I know health insurance is expensive but don't they offer student health insurance in Truman? Did any of you did the whole vaccination and health examination at any hospital? Is it easier to do it at a hospital than doing it at the lab testing sites that they gave us at the orientation? I registered for CPR class in Truman and just wondering if I should still do it there or just do it somewhere else? As for the parking I thought that they are constructing a parking building which should be done by the time we start nursing school this fall. I still have lots of questions but I guess these questions are enough for now. Thanks in advance for those who will answer them.
Per Truman Chairman, or I don't know his position, but he was a school official at the orientation ( night time), the parking lot will be ready by the end of fall....so by December, because they do not have an exact date from the architects, the parking lot will be ready...that means that we will have to rely on the Lake parking lot, because parking in the neighborhood is a huge problem, there are rarely free spots.....
regarding health insurance......I think they will require us to have health insurance, but I am not sure if the school offer one...if they don't, that is messed up....but it is a good question....
I took my CPR class at MalcolmX, if you are enrolled at Truman, I would stay there ....

I was in the afternoon session.
Now I will have to double check and make sure my info is correct. I felt a little rushed at the info session.
