Good day! I hope all is well!! Are there any other non-traditional nursing students on here who are in route to becoming a nurse?! I hope to inspire those who have a lot on their plates and feel as though they need some inspiration, including myself......so let's band together in optimism and inspire one another!!!

I'm 30, married, and have a daughter who will be 2 on the 30th and a boy due early September.

I quit my job last August to start a program last fall which I attended until the end of February. I spent nearly 8.5 years in medical billing. I withdrew because they are not regionally accredited (didn't understand what that meant until I researched more during my first semester). Had I graduated from there, my continuing education prospects were pretty dim. I withdrew to apply to the school I'll be attending in a couple of weeks (huge risk, but it was worth it as I've been accepted). I feel fortunate to be going there. Almost anyone I talk to about school has heard of them and has said nothing but great things about the school.

Orientation is this Friday as well as a mandatory meeting on the 14th. I believe classes start the week of the 17th. The program is 5 semesters, continuing through summer, with an expected graduation date of May 2017. Clinicals start first semester, about 5-6 weeks in which is only a week or two after our due date, which is a little scary to think about, but I have a really good support system and just pray that it's all going to work out with hard work.

The school partners with the hospital (a teaching hospital) which I'm very excited about, especially as the majority of graduates find jobs after graduation at the hospital. That was also a big reason I chose to apply because I really wanted to get into the hospital.

Hi! I'm 26, a mother of two younger children (8 and 4), and I'll be in orientation for my third semester on 8/19, and starting lecture on 8/25. Hopefully I'll be an RN by this time next year!

32 (almost 33) married, mom of two school-agers.

Just about DONE with second semester of nursing school. Next stop, MS II in August.

It seems like non-traditional nursing students are more common than "traditional" college-aged students. At least at my school.

35 year old mom to four(12, 6, 4, 2). I start my ASN program this month. I am lucky that my husband has a great job that has enabled me to be a SAHM for the past 12 years but I am ready to get back into school and finish my degree.

I'm a married mom of a 13 month old boy & will be applying to bridge programs at the end of this year/beginning of next. Fingers crossed I get in!!

I am 41 years old with 3 kids (6, 12 and 14). I started on this journey about 3 years ago and finally getting closer to adding LPN after my name!

I'm a 41 yr old wife and mother of 2 (ages 18 & 13). I start the ADN program on the 21st of this month. I also work full-time at night. I'm excited to be going on this journey.

Hey!!!! Tell me a little more about yourself. Are you starting clinicals in the fall?! If not, when do you start?! Will you be in orientation on August 25th?!

Yes I will be at orientation on Aug 25th. I'm really hoping to meet you in person. I believe we're supposed to sign up for our clinical of choice on Aug 24th. Not sure when we will begin but I'm thinking of singing up for Wartsburg, I heard it's a really nice place and it's only 15 minutes away from me. I'm so excited for this new journey. It will definitely be my greatest achievement when I graduate.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Hi there! I am 28, a mom of 2 little girls and just got accepted into an ADN program in Washington state, although I am from Idaho. I am definitely a non-traditional student and would love to be part of the group to support each other!

Hello. I am 43 years old, married with five sons ages 28,27,24,17,and about to be 10. I am in week five of my first quarter of nursing school. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one in my 40s just starting the journey to becoming a nurse. Best wishes to you all and lets keep each other encouraged.

Hello I need to ask something for the nontrads or anyone to answer. Well first as a transfer I was told I'm nontraditional anyway but I'm not for my age. But anyway I'm curious because this is one of many many 25+ threads on allnurses I've seen. So I wondered why is it so common a choice to become a nurse for a second career? I don't know any other career so popular a choice and really was curious what are all your reasons.

Best wishes!
