- Calling all non-traditional nursing students!!!
35 year old mom to four(12, 6, 4, 2). I start my ASN program this month. I am lucky that my husband has a great job that has enabled me to be a SAHM for the past 12 years but I am ready to get back into school and finish my degree.- Best planner for nursing school?
I have a 1407 planner I got off of etsy. I plug everything into my google calendar too. I also put everything on a big blotter I have on my desk.- Poll: Nurse and law enforcement couples
No. My husband is an engineer.- Nursing School Supplies
I ordered a planner off etsy. I think it was 1407 planners or something like that. I love it! I have nursing school, a household to run, a husband, and four kids(2 in school, 1 in prek, and another in a church program 2 days a week). This planner is huge and has plenty of room for everything. I am thinking about ordering a second one to just put nursing school stuff in. I highly recommend them. The better binder system from Staples is another favorite. I like the variety in colors and I can coordinate my classes better because of it. I try to use the same color for everything in one class. Green binder, green highlighter(on my calendar), green index cards, etc. Organization is going to be crucial for me getting through nursing school so it may seem a bit overkill but I don't want to leave anything to chance.- Managing fitness in Nursing school
I am in the same boat. I have the added problem of distance. My school is almost an hour north of my house and my box(crossfit gym) is a half hour south. I am waiting to see exactly what my schedule will be before I make a decision about joking a box in the city where I attend school. I am hoping to continue going four or five days a week. I am currently training for a half marathon too. I have no doubt all this is going to change come August.- Engagement/Wedding Ring Question
I start nursing school in the fall and plan on wearing my qalo ring. I wear it when I do CrossFit and it is awesome. I know several people wear them in lieu of an engagement ring when working out too.- Nursing, CrossFit, and funky hands
I tried gloves. It slowed me down. I never felt like I had a good grip. I'm going to try the pumicing. That sounds pretty good.- Nursing, CrossFit, and funky hands
Any nurses here into CrossFit? I start nursing school in August and am worried about the beating my hands take. How do you protect your hand from ripping? Do you modify to avoid a lot of bar work? Thanks!- Male student enters OB room. What do you think?
I would not turn down a nurse that had not given birth but I would prefer one who had. I would prefer nurses who had experience in natural birth since that is what I wanted to accomplish. I was thankful that I got one. If a nurse chose to not breastfeed(with no other reason that she didn't want to), I would not want her as my nurse ever. With the overwhelming evidence that breastfeeding is best and that support is key, I would not want anyone who could not fully support that. I am a huge advocate of breastfeeding. I had a horrible lactation consultant who had me so confused and frustrated I almost gave up. I worked through it and went on breastfeed successfully for 18 months. I was lucky that I had a great online support system. Not many do.- What age did you complete your BSN or ASN?
I will be a month shy of 37 for my ADN. If I get into the RN-MSN program I want, I will be 38 when I finish that.- Male student enters OB room. What do you think?
Unfortunately there is a lack of female obs in my area. I went with a midwife but she injured her back halfway through my pregnancy. I loved my OB though. He is a Catholic father with a bunch of kids. He teaches a fertility awareness class and is very leaning toward to holistic side. I preferred that. My nurses were awesome. I have given birth four times and each time the nurses are what helped me maintain my sanity. Transition went extremely fast with my second child and I lost it. They brought me back. Birth, IMO, is a different process that death or cancer. Honestly, it is hard to explain to people who don't see it that way. I prefer the experience surrounded by women. If that is not possible I make the best of it, but given the choice, I will go with female.- Male student enters OB room. What do you think?
Its not the same thing. You have a long established relationship with your OB. I have been going to mine for 13 years. Also, nurses are the backbone of labor. They are the ones who coach and reassure a laboring woman. My nurses were champs. They were on the same level because they had been there. I chose my OB for his expertise. I would choose female labor nurses for theirs as well. The difference is theirs is personal. A male nurse can't tell you about his natural labor. A male nurse can't commiserate with you about how breastfeeding sucks. So basically it boils down to wanting someone who knows your pain. Not a man who no matter how much he has read or seen it. will never know it- Male student enters OB room. What do you think?
I have four children and after the experience I had with student nurses, I requested no students be present for my third and fourth. I have tiny veins and a nursing student tried to start my IV. She blew every one in arm and I ended up with an IV in my wrist. Talk about some pain. I cut her some slack because even her instructor couldn't hit the vein. It took calling in the nurse manager to get it right. After that, I made it clear that there were to be no nursing students. Thankfully, my labors are only about two hours so it is never been that big of a deal. - Calling all non-traditional nursing students!!!
