Good day! I hope all is well!! Are there any other non-traditional nursing students on here who are in route to becoming a nurse?! I hope to inspire those who have a lot on their plates and feel as though they need some inspiration, including myself......so let's band together in optimism and inspire one another!!!
Shonta - Future BSN
I was 23 when I started my pre-reqs and 25 when I got into the program. This was after fumbling around aimlessly at community college for a while and then dropping out to work. Now I'm two semesters in with three to go. Sort of glad I did it that way tbh, I really had no idea what the hell I wanted or enjoyed career-wise when I was younger.
I was 13 when I was pulled out of school to be "home-schooled". That home schooling never happened so the last grade I completed was 7th. Never set foot in a high school. I didn't do anything until almost age 22. I got my GED and scored in the 99th percentile. Started my pre-Reqs right away and just applied to the school of choice a week or so ago. Will hear back mid-September!
Not quite like most the stories here, but non-traditional nonetheless.

What an inspiring story!!!! I pray that you get into the Nursing program of your choice!!! XOXOXOXOX
Shonta, I really enjoy working as CNA. I have learned so much that I know will help me in nursing school. Like how to prioritize, time management, and honestly not to be intimidated by nurses or patients. I think we all want the same thing in the end...quality care for our patients. I'm certainly not afraid to get dirty. I think it will make clinicals so much easier to get through, I have the dealing with patients down, now I can focus my time on what I need to learn. lol
Yes I will be at orientation on Aug 25th. I'm really hoping to meet you in person. I believe we're supposed to sign up for our clinical of choice on Aug 24th. Not sure when we will begin but I'm thinking of singing up for Wartsburg, I heard it's a really nice place and it's only 15 minutes away from me. I'm so excited for this new journey. It will definitely be my greatest achievement when I graduate.
Sorry for the late response!!!! I had trouble with my log in information which didn't allow me to access this site. It would have been nice to meet you at the orientation!! There were to many people for me to know who exactly you were though. Lol. I am starting my clinicals in the spring unfortunately. I would still like to meet you!!
This is my last week of classes and finals next week (first semester). I have a very high A in A&P and am borderline A/B in fundamentals. I'm just under an A, but if I can get a 91 or better on the final, I'll swing an A. Clinicals were a blurr (well, really the care plans!). Clinicals were quite the experience (considering my shyness/introvertedness). I progressed throughout and passed (with the main thing I need to work on being confidence / not letting nerves show). I'll have 4 weeks off before second semester starts and am really looking forward to the break (the only long break is around Christmas).
How've you been doing?

I'm glad to hear that your first semester has been a success!!!! Your grades are flawless!!!!! I too, am wrapping up my fall semester. I am in my final semester before I start clincals as well as fundamentals, health assessment, pharmacology, transcultural and dosage calculations. I am also looking forward to this Christmas break. I need it!!!
About to be 25. Have a baby boy:inlove: school considers me a transfer non traditional. Life threw me a curve ball so I have to redo my prerequisites:banghead: but I will be transferring into a BSN program so it evens out I guess.
I am also a transfer non traditional who had to start from scratch time and time again. It's frustrating but it can be done! I start my nursing courses next month and I finally feel like all of the bumps in the road were worth it. You got this!!! I am a 29 year old who is the mother of a 9 year old baby girl so I can relate to you on that note as well. We have to do it for our little ones. They are counting on us!!! XXXOOOXO

Hi, I am a 47 year old female starting the clinical portion of an ADN program. The kids are grown, so I have rented out my house, changed states and rented out a small room in someone elses house. this is a 3rd career for me, and is my mid life change :) Hopefully it will be a better investment than the typical red sports car !
