called in sick 2 days in a row

Published

I'm feeling pretty low everybody... I've called in sick for the past 2 days--- but I'm actually really sick... I can't get in too see my PCP for another 2 weeks and was told over the phone by him to ride it out, get rest drink fluids and take tylenol. It's no suprise to me that I'm sick.. I've been working crazy hours trying to help work, completely stressed out about work and home and so many other things.

So now I'm sick: cold sores, fever ranging from 100.4-103.6 orally, sore throat, ears, plugged, nose and head all stuffy, plus vomiting and all that fun crap...

I called in yesterday, and today... DO you think maybe they'll get the picture?? Probably not..

ON the bright side since I've been couch bound I managed to finish season 3 of grey's anatomy... so I'm ready for next weeks premier..

And I've pumped myself so full of fluids that its crazy... I'm starting to feel semi better..

And on a funny note one of the other nurses who I work with called me earlier and said she was also sick and called in- so at least I'm not alone... Have a goo night everybody my sick aching body is back off to bed....

Take good care of yourself babe, hope you feel better soon! Just a wee question to all, what does PCP stand for, im guessing its your family doctor? (im in Scotland, our family doctor is our GP, General practitioner) Just like to be familiar with the terms here, but I agree with 2 weeks being an excessive time to wait to see someone when you are ill now.

PCP..Primary Care Physician. Normally with an HMO (health insurance) you have to pick a PCP, so if you are in need of a specialist, like say a Cardiologist, you need a referal from your PCP in order to go to the Cardiologist and have the insurance pay for it. It was designed to stop people from going to high priced specialists when in all actuality, a GP could have remedied the situation.

pcp=primary care physician.

To the OP, I hope you're feeling better soon.

My husband is a travel nurse on a 13 week assignment. A few weeks ago he came down with bronchitis so bad that in addition to having a fever, he could NOT stop coughing, even with cough medicine. There was NO way he could be around patients in that condition. He works in the ICU.

The hospital he is assigned to totally gave him a hard time about calling off for two days. He went to the doctor and got a note, but they were still peeved about it. But check this out: the hospital's regular employees get paid 19 an hour, their health insurance consists of 50% coverage if they are admitted to the hospital where they work, DOCTORS VISITS ARE NOT COVERED, so if they get sick they also have to provide a doctors note, which they have to pay 100% of. No wonder they need travel nurses, nobody wants to work there, LOL. :angryfire

I sure hope you are feeling better by now. Being sick just plain sucks!

Find a new doctor or go to urgent care.

If my doctor told me that without even seeing me, I would be finding a new one.

Life stinks when we have to become adults, doesn't it?

Bills, bills, bills. Work and bills. Eat and go to the bathroom and work and pay bills and sleep a little in between. Burn yourself out in the hampster wheel and get nowhere.

Enjoy your time off and hope you feel better soon.

Sorry you are feeling sick, get some rest and I hope you feel better soon. Catch up on your reading, tv, etc, sometimes a cold can be a nice little vacation in your living room :)

I went to work today-- which they gave me a hard time about.. They wanted me to do a double shift-- and I said no because I'm still not 100% but I went in even though I'm still stuffed up and coughing.. I wore a face mask all night for that reason... And they were pissed that I wouldn't stay for a double...

A double shift?! How many hours is that? Even being healthy I would say hell no to a double shift, that's nuts.

Let's see now...

Have a lawyer draw up a contract stating that if you get sick or relapse (or have an extended recovery time) after working these extra hours, the hospital agrees to pay in full all costs incurred to include doctor bills for initial treatment and all follow-up care, all meds and treatments (prescription and over-the-counter), all transportation and other expenses that arise because of the illness or its treatment; that they will pay you full wages (including usual differentials) for the time you miss and that this will not be deducted from your PTO or sick bank. And that they accept full liability for any mistakes made in patient care while working extended hours, to include attorney fees and living expenses should any litigation occur as a result.

Then whip that baby out for them to sign the next time they make such a ridiculous request. ;)
