2010 is fast approaching so I think there must be a new thread for 2010 new grad program. I hope the moderators will allow me to post this new thread. I'm currently working at Monrovia Memorial Hospital which is 40 miles away from our apt. We live here in Playa del Rey, near the LAX and unfortunately I don't drive yet. I'm looking for any hospitals that offers new grad program for next year. I'm not even sure if I'm still qualified for a new grad program because it will be my 8th month this Jan. working at Monrovia Memorial. Anyone could share any info..Thanks..

After three interviews (which started mid-July) at Dameron, I was offered a position into their 2010 Fall Versant Program this week! I'm so excited because the competition was stiff!

I'm running around getting my drug screen and background check done this week. I see myself fortunate given the lack of new grad programs in the bay area! :yeah:

hey guys.. i was selected to interview for ucsf back in june.. i did not get the job but i was 1 of 5 selected to interview.. i precepted on this particular unit and they were only hiring one.. the entire hospital is hiring 16 and they will all be starting august 9th.. of course i was bummed i didnt get it but it was a good experience.. im actually pretty determined to eventually get a job there..

well i was hoping you guys can give me some advice about a different opportunity that came up for me.. there is a small, outpatient surgery center in Fremont (Bay Area, where I live now) that is hiring a new grad RN.. i interviewed with them and they seem to be really interested in hiring me. however, their starting pay is extremely low compared to hospital nurses.. i know nurses in clinics and outpatients dont make as much but i did not expect so little either.. they are offering me $25/hr compared to the $40/hr that nurses in the hospital make.. i would have to make a one year commitment in return for the training.. i think they are trying to save money by not hiring an experienced OR nurse.. they would be training me to work pre-op, pacu, and eventually circulating OR.. i just graduated this past April so i'm very grateful for the opportunity.. but i feel like im being taken advatage of in terms of pay.. what do you guys think? most of my teachers agree it is a very low number but also say it would be a learning experience above everything else.. oh i should mention ive never had an interest in being in the OR.. i imagined myself working with patients who are awake.. lol. and of course, i would love to work in the hospital setting.. but i always keep an open mind so i don't really mind trying the OR.. so i'm contemplating whether i should take the job and make the commitment at such a low pay.. or if i should keep looking for the ideal hospital job.. :confused:

Congrats. I hear there was over 500 applicants. Which unit did you get?

Hi there, i am in the same boat. I was offered a position in california at $22 an hour, now I have an interview for an intership in my home town (so I wouldn;t have to move) for $6.50 more an hour. of course, if I am offered the internship the choice is clear, but I am pretty happy to have an offer anywhere! I would take it if I were you, its experience and a year isn't that much time, but then I am an OR nurse thru and thru, so it would be gold to me. you would not be trained to be a floor nurse, but if doing pre-op and pacu you would get some awake patients LOL. surgery is fun!! :yeah: one thing about the surgery centers, one friend i know worked at one and they shoved people out the door, whether there was someone else waiting for the bed or not. people that were woozie, not quite awake yet...when it woould be fine to just let them hang out a bit longer, so he didn't feel comfortable with that, and quit working there.

one question I have is how do you graciously recind your acceptance of a job offer, when you are offered something better? I want to work at the first place and am so grateful for the opp but the money is better, plus training, at the other... I feel bad...but then I haven;t been offered the 2nd one yet....guess I'll wait to see... that sort of thing happens in nursing all the time doesn;t it?? I mean theres nothing in writing, they could just as well pull the job or offer out from under me, after I've moved there... we are both in a rocky place really... is that the normal hiring procedure??

Hi I'm pretty new to allnurses.com and need some help!

I am from out of state and do not know my hospitals in California!

I'm currently a nursing student going for my preceptorship and I have a choice to one of these hospitals. (Ultimately I'd like to work ED or any ICUs).

Which Hospital should I request my preceptorship at?

Huntington Memorial -Pasadena

Arcadia Methodist -Arcadia

Hoag- Newport Beach

St. Joseph's- Orange

Kaiser- Balwin Park

Kaiser- Fontana

Hi I'm rather new to this, what do you mean the first 150 callers? It sounds like a radio station prize. How does this work? Send in applications and then they open up the phonelines on a specific date and wait for the callers to pour in?

Does the VA train new grads at any other hospitals in California?? I graduated in May, passed nclex last month and there are no new grad positions in my area!! It seems like its like this throughout California..:(

Depends on where in Cali. I don't think they have a new grad program in So Cal but i heard there's 1 in Nor Cal
