California's 2010 New Grad RN Program

2010 is fast approaching so I think there must be a new thread for 2010 new grad program. I hope the moderators will allow me to post this new thread. I'm currently working at Monrovia Memorial Hospital which is 40 miles away from our apt. We live here in Playa del Rey, near the LAX and unfortunately I don't drive yet. I'm looking for any hospitals that offers new grad program for next year. I'm not even sure if I'm still qualified for a new grad program because it will be my 8th month this Jan. working at Monrovia Memorial. Anyone could share any info..Thanks..

I ran across Glendale last night and applied. I checked this morning and the position has been closed. I am guessing I applied right at the deadline. I didnt see any thing posted about that hospital;)

Huh? The application for Glendale Memorial already passed? I've been checking everyday and didn't find anything on it. I went out of town on Sunday and came back last night, and there was nothing. :(

Already? That fast? Do you know how long it was open for? That sucks! I checked on Sunday before I left and there wasn't anything. I checked on Tuesday on my way back and there was still nothing. :(

I applied on Thursday, not sure when it went up. Chasitym84, do you know when they will call for interviews? There are absolutely no jobs in Southern California and it's such a downer :(

There are very very few jobs I see on craigslist, and the ones I do find that are willing to accept new grads aren't in an acute setting..

I consider myself very lucky to land myself a job w/in a month after i got my lic but I started to look ever since I graduated. My suggestion would be keep trying. Call or even go to the HR/ nursing recruitment of the hospitals to ask if they hire new grads b/c there are some that list exp required but they will consider new grad if your resume catches their eyes.

One idea to try is researching local infusion clinics in oncology offices and drop by with a resume package. I did this to three offices and then I landed a couple interviews at one via a friend. I really liked the nurse manager and other nurses at this place--infusion clinics have a great vibe and a new gradRN would be very supported. While not bedside nursing, I totally felt I would love working there and would learn a lot. It seemed they really liked me as well; However, when it came time to interview with the MD's I was so nervous and became so exhausted from not sleeping the night before I bombed the interview. I so need to work on my interview skills. In the mean time I thought I'd float out this idea in the hopes someone out there might have better luck than I did.

Hi there, i am in the same boat. I was offered a position in california at $22 an hour, now I have an interview for an intership in my home town (so I wouldn;t have to move) for $6.50 more an hour. of course, if I am offered the internship the choice is clear, but I am pretty happy to have an offer anywhere! I would take it if I were you, its experience and a year isn't that much time, but then I am an OR nurse thru and thru, so it would be gold to me. you would not be trained to be a floor nurse, but if doing pre-op and pacu you would get some awake patients LOL. surgery is fun!! :yeah: one thing about the surgery centers, one friend i know worked at one and they shoved people out the door, whether there was someone else waiting for the bed or not. people that were woozie, not quite awake yet...when it woould be fine to just let them hang out a bit longer, so he didn't feel comfortable with that, and quit working there.

one question I have is how do you graciously recind your acceptance of a job offer, when you are offered something better? I want to work at the first place and am so grateful for the opp but the money is better, plus training, at the other... I feel bad...but then I haven;t been offered the 2nd one yet....guess I'll wait to see... that sort of thing happens in nursing all the time doesn;t it?? I mean theres nothing in writing, they could just as well pull the job or offer out from under me, after I've moved there... we are both in a rocky place really... is that the normal hiring procedure??

You may have already chosen but by far Hoag Hospital is superior not only hospital but location. I am CA native and as traveler

have worked so many places. good luck

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know if Hoag Hospital is still hiring new grads? The next starting date is September 7th and the people at HR said they will be opening the positions this month. As of yet, they still haven't posted any :(

Not sure about Hoag, but on their website it does say they will open up if there are spots available. If there is no need for new nurses then I guess there goes the next new grad program :(
