California's 2011 New Grad Program

Published

When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)

First off, When did you graduate?

Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?

I chose NICU. Im currently precepting on a NICU and would LOVE to get a new graduate job on that unit!

Specializes in Cardiac.

I was also wondering what we were supposed to put under "Teaching Philosophy" on the USC application. We are supposed to attach our Personal Statement and Unofficial Transcripts to the application, but there is only one space to attach an additional document in addition to our Resume and Cover Letter. So how are you guys attaching it?? I think this is the same question as katie33.

My personal statement is 1.5 pages single-spaced. I repeated a lot of the stuff I had in my cover letter as well.

I chose Cardiac Telemetry and Stepdown Unit as my first and second choices. I precepted on a Cardiac Telemetry Unit so maybe that will help. Good luck to everyone!!

any news on UCSD?

I am on their website and am also having trouble finding any info about a new grad program opening today. Let mw know if you come up with anything and ill do the same.

ok, will do!

For USC, how are people getting their reference letters to HR? Are you having the person who wrote them fax them over, or can we fax over the hard copies that we have.

I'm pretty sure your personal statement and cover letter are supposed to be one in the same. Not both. That's why you don't have room maybe? You are supposed to attach the personal statement/cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcript.

My personal statement is also 1.5 pages single-spaced.

Specializes in CCRN, ECMO, IABP, CRRT, LVAD.

I got an email from Saint Jude New Grad program.... and guess what

"Thank you for your interest in employment opportunities with St. Jude Medical Center/St. Jude Heritage Healthcare.

At this time we have elected to pursue other candidates whose backgrounds more closely meet our current need for the position of New Grad Registered Nurse August 2011 Program."

:sniff: That's ok... The right job will come. Patience.

and oh, I applied on USC as well. And also had a hard time thinking what will I put on teaching philosophy as well. I chose perioperative unit and Neuro for my 2nd choice.
