Cedars-Sinai New Grad Summer 09

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey everyone!

Just thought we could start a thread for those of us who interviewed for Cedars-Sinai's new grad program this past week.

Specializes in L&D, Antepartum, Mother-Baby.
I am also hoping that the GPA was not a huge deal. I think a good interview, resume, and experience probably takes priority over GPA.....however, I don't know if they will really take the time to read 600+ portfolios.

I'm guessing that the ones that are actually read will probably be based on the scoring outcome of the individual's interview.

I take it no one has gotten a call yet?...

so happy to hear from u guys.

i am an international RN. i hve no idea how to apply in their new grad program. i think they don't really look at foreign nurses right?

I emailed a nurse recruiter last Friday about when we will know if we're selected or not and she replied on Monday that we should hear something within 1-2 weeks of the interview and if we're not selected they'll be a letter. Pretty much what others have been saying but I wanted to make sure.

I'm curious to know how rigorous the selection process is. Say, who sees our portfolios and how many people have to approve, etc.?

Specializes in ICU, Renal dialysis.

did you interview on the 9th? so does this mean we should know by the 23?

I interviewed on the 4th and from what I understand, it takes three weeks. The wait is a nightmare! I know my interview was not the best (it wasn't terrible, just not the best), but I really hope that doesn't stop them from even entertaining a look at my portfolio. I feel it's REALLY strong, so I'm just hoping they at least look at the portfolio despite a less-than-optimal interview. Good luck everyone!

I interviewed on June 4th so according to the recruiter I should hear something no later than today, June 18th.

Hello all! I too interviewed for June 4th and it certainly bites having to wait! I just called them today and they (sounding really frustrated and annoyed probably from a gazillion phone calls) said that we have to wait AT LEAST another 2 weeks because "there are sooo many applicants"...

It's really frustrating to be in this "limbo" situation where my life is contingent upon this answer... sigh.

*Special thanks to whoever started this thread!!!

I really hope I get a phone call :bowingpur... and same to the others on this forum!!!

I don't think it's fair either that they had a GPA requirement for those of you who had to travel from out of state! I'm thinking they want to get as many people as they can so that they can have more choices...

My interviewer was quite informative in explaining why they asked certain questions. They want to make sure you have basic clinical skills, as well as good people skills. Some of the questions were pretty textbook, but you can easily add your own personal spin to them. I take it that the scoring was up to a max of 5. She mentioned there was no right or wrong answer, and it's up to the interviewer to see if you "got it". I felt a really good vibe from our session so hopefully it's not all a facade!

Having to wait so long makes me question myself as far as how good I thought my interview and portfolio actually was in comparison to the whole group! Although I feel as though I have a rather strong portfolio, I saw quite a few 4.0's on that sign up sheet! I hope they look at everything... luckily my interviewer took the time to read over my WHOLE packet, which was nice! I wonder how much say our interviewer has in the hiring process... hopefully a lot (in my case)!

Goodluck to everyone :redbeathe!!! PLEASE let us know if you hear anything... on second thought maybe not 'cause that could be bad news! Ahhh!

-hello-wannabe

please let us know if you do!

I will. Let us know if you hear anything/something too.

Hello every one,

Thank you so much to those of you who have called Cedars-Sinai and shared the info with the rest of us.

Well, today I got an e-mail from one of the managers I talked to (my formal interview was with one manager only, but somehow the manager sitting at the next table got into the conversation, so I felt I interviewed with two people). Anyways, I thought it was going to be a rejection e-mail, but it was just an acknowledgement. Basically, she thank me for taking the time to write them (thank-you-for-the-interview letter), she mentioned that I did pretty well on my interview, that she was impressed, and then she wished me good luck.

So...maybe they liked me or maybe they didn't but they are trying to be polite. But one thing is for sure.....they are still on process of choosing their candidates.

Ok people, take a deep breath and relax 'cuz we will likely hear from them next week. Good luck guys!! Please continue to keep us up to date.
