Cedars-Sinai New Grad Summer 09

Published

Hey everyone!

Just thought we could start a thread for those of us who interviewed for Cedars-Sinai's new grad program this past week.

I just found out that 3 more of my classmates were offered positions. All with excellent GPA's, MSNs. That is a total of 6 students from my MEPN program. There were 28 in my class.

I continue to wish you all good luck in your job search. I can only imagine how nerve racking this must be for all of you.

Hi YesDog,

This is totall random, but where do you go to school for your msn? I want to start applying and seems like a bunch of students in your program have gotten new grad jobs. Thanks!

cedars sinai is sending out their acceptance email for phase 1 as of now that is what my friend got.

phase 1 is the phone interview.

I just received email notification for a phone interview as well. The email said not to bother contacting the person for a phone interview if your GPA is not higher than 3.5.

Any tips on the interview? Are clinical questions asked? I had a really bad experience with an interview (she asked me telemetry questions that I didn't know the answers to) and now I am traumatized! Thanks!

well I work currently work at Cedars right now...been there for about 2 years. I believe th enext new grad program is in february. In the best interest, if you just want a job, especially at cedars, apply for a specialty that may not be of high interest, like Med/surge or whicever else. High interest in ER, PACU, and especially ICU you'll be competing. Then after a year there then you can change specialities to whicever you want. If you guys have any other questions feel free to ask me.

what about specialty areas in women and infants (L&D, NICU, etc.)?

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure how many people still check this forum, but I was wondering if anyone could provide some information regarding the 2nd interview/open house. Does anyone know what type of questions will be asked? For those of you who were accepted into the new grad program last year, did you all get into the specialty of your choice?? What was the starting pay as a new grad and any nights and weekends differentials?

Thanks!!

Did you do the phone interview already? and when is your next interview? I am a new grad that got accepted this past february so I am still a new grad. There were only 17 of us selected so it was very different then i think your program will be. We were interviewed individually by a manager of a unit then if hired put on one of their many med surg units and had new grad classes and ten weeks of orientation. It is very hard to get into specialty areas and they want you to just build your skills on med/surg what specialty area are you thinking?

sorry forgot to finish your question but the starting pay depends on what degree you have, associates, bachelors or masters so I am not sure what it will be they discuss that with you and there is night and weekend differentials as well but again it depends on your base rate....

Congrats on your acceptance into the new grad program in February!!

I have already completed the first-phase interview and will be moving onto the second-phase interview tomorrow (May 21st). I have been following a couple of different forums and this particular interview session appears to be different because several people have interviews at the same time. I don't really know what to expect because the first interview asked many of those general interview questions, so I don't know what will be asked during this second phase. Will it be a lot of patient-scenario questions? medication questions?

Thank you so much for you quick response! I appreciate it very much =]

I just realized I forgot to answer your question as well. I am applying to a position in the ER, but I believe they are also going to have all the new grads start in med/surg units as well.

Oh wow, the pay is actually different for the different degrees?

Have you already completed the new grad training? Or will you be starting the new grad classes and orientation with the July hires?

Once again, thank you for sharing this information.
