California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Congrats that your resume is being reviewed for Mercy. Do you know when that new grad program starts? My resume is also being reviewed but I don't graduate until August...so that new grad start date might be an issue. The interview for Encinitas was straightforward. Tell me about yourself, what's a recent accomplishment, how do you handle stress, what if you knew something unethical about a co-worker, how do you define good patient care. There weren't any "skills" type questions or scenarios r/t patient care. Good luck with the Mercy interview! Hope this helps.

Just a side note....I was reading this thread from missouri and you guys are awesome to work together like this and help each other.....great training to be a nurse!!

FYI. Move to Missouri!! We are in the tank on nurses- Kansas City Childrens Mercy, KU Med Center, Joplin Freeman Hospital, Joplin St Johns----LOL. Good luck guys!! HUGS TO ALL!!

I am so sick of CA right now I'm currently applying license for several licenses outside of CA. I'll move anywhere at this point just to get my career started. I will definitely look into Missouri.

I just don't understand how such a big city (North & So Cal) can have such a hard time with hiring.

Beyond annoyed I still don't have a job yet, and it's going on 1 year now.

Thank you so much! I got an email today scheduling for my interview. Oh boy.. I've had a couple interviews already at a local hospital, but I haven't been this nervous for an interview yet! Probably because I really want to move to San Diego :lol2: I don't know when it is suppose to start, I remember the application saying either July or August. Guess I'll find out later this week.

Congrats, you're lucky to even have an interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck and power to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made a post on my knitting website for nurses.

This was one reply: Toledo Hospital, in glorious Toledo, Ohio, has a nurse-intern program for new grads. Call HR - it’s not on the website - 419-291-4000, and ask for Human Resources

AND

AS far as i know the VA system is still hiring new grads, withsome new grad interships nationwide

Hi,

Did you also mean VA in bay area? or where?

What was the interview like? I was sad when I didn't get a call back from Encinitas, but I just looked at the Scripps site, and it says my resume is being reviewed for the Mercy RN program. Hopefully, I'll get a call about that one.

Hi,

Can I ask the question? Where is Encinitas? Is that Mercy hospital (CHW hospital) open?

Scripps Encinitas is just north of San Diego. Scripps Mercy is part of Scripps Health and is in San Diego. The New Graduate RN program applications for both places are now closed, sorry. I'm not sure when the next program will be, but you can check their website periodically for new listings or call and ask. I ended up checking almost everyday and saw Scripps Mercy had a new grad program, which they closed very quickly. They also had another listing last week for an ICU New Grad Program and it was only up for a day!

I also received an email today about the interview event. Do you know what kind of interview they'll be having, if it'll be a panel or individual managers? And if this interview event is the only one and final interview before they select applicants to fill the open positions?
