Greetings.
This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.
I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.
I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.
The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.
At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.
I hope to hear from you soon.

I went to Cedars for the open house last week. They told me that they would hire 100 people, but they have been hosting open houses all year, so I suspect that some of those spots may already be taken. The managers I interviewed with said that they will get back to us in a week, and if you don't hear anything, you should call HR to ask. Hope that helps! 1700, really! Not surprised at all, but geez! When I signed in at the open house, it didn't look like they were interviewing more than 20 people each half hour, so that 1700 was probably cut down to about 500-600. The odds there sound a lot better :)
i actually try to not get caught up in the numbers of it all. i tried to do my best today, and don't feel that great about it (my stupid nerves got the best of me! aaargh)
how do you guys feel you did? do you feel like you were able to make yourself stand out above the rest? if so, how? my interviewer was daydreaming practically the whole time, i could tell she was bored out of her mind doing all of these interviews, and it got me wondering if my interview answers or packet would be remarkable enough to stand out. who knows? i know they ask us the same questions and score our answers, tally them up at the end, and go from there. i just don't feel i did that well today, but i'm okay with that.
I'm not really sure how to assess my performance... But, I understand by what you meant. Well, let's just say that I thought it would have been more formal? Overall, my interviewer made me feel comfortable although I could feel my upper lip starting to twitch near the end of the interview. haha.
I felt really comfortable. I had two managers interview me at the same time, so it felt more like a conversation than a Q & A. I felt a bit though like I didn't have enough time to answer the questions; if I paused at all, they would kind of just cut me off and ask the next question. I did see the first page of the score sheet of the person ahead of me (I'm not a snoop, but it was just laying there on the table in front of me), and she got mostly 5's. So, either she was amazing, or they weren't that harsh with the scoring.

All those 5s sound good! The person who interviewed me did not fill out the #s until I left the table, so I couldn't peek.. ack!
Hi everyone,
I just graduated on May 15, 2009 and awaiting my interim license to be able to work in California. I am nervous and feel worse as I continue to read all your comments! Is it getting any better yet? I should be testing soon early in July. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to tell me who is hiring for this coming month (s)? I've applied to so many hospitals it's not funny anymore. I haven't received one call which I attribute at not having an interim license. Im worried I'm not going to get my IP on time for a new grad. program.
Take care and I hope to get a job opportunity soon.

Unfortunately, the situation still persists. I graduated December of last year and still haven't landed a job, and there are some who graduated a year ago. The new grad programs usually start on August and applications were already due. There are some hospitals who do not formally have a new grad program and accepts new grad based on their department need. But both of these opportunities are rare. If you ask for my advice, I would tell you to focus first on passing the NCLEX, and worry about getting a job after you passed. Oh, and most if not some new grad programs and RN positions accept IP provided you get your license when you start.
Good luck.
Just heads up...the nurse recruiter at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas is beginning to call applicants who applied to their new grad program to come in for interviews.
Did you get the job? I also interviewed for the new grad program but was not offered a position. I'm thankful that I got an interview! There were over 600 applicants, 35 interviewed for 15 positions. Any tips for the next interview would be helpful! Thanks.

What was the interview like? I was sad when I didn't get a call back from Encinitas, but I just looked at the Scripps site, and it says my resume is being reviewed for the Mercy RN program. Hopefully, I'll get a call about that one.

i don't have my license yet either. i think as long as you have it before the start date, you're good.
i got there early too and was seen right away. i overheard the front desk people counting up how many people were no-shows. i think there were a lot!
