California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

me too..i still cant land a job right now, im still waiting for a call. im here at north county san diego and most of the hospitals minimum experience requirement id 1 yr. i never had an RN experience here in the states and only had a 2 month training in the PI. i am waiting for a call about the new grad residency program of scripps that i applied to. they'll start at july 6 and its been 2 weeks from the time they closed the submission of application. they are calling applicants now, and im in wait..

im thinking of volunteering to atleast gain an experience but where?.. right now, i cant seem to see the good result of carrying a bachelors degree in nursing and as an RN, its quite slow to land a job..

any suggestions?

Where did you apply? the program start July 6?

BSN is nothing different according to nursing recruiter.

How long did you look for in the bay area? the whole year? It is been total one year for me. Do you think they will hire the people grad in June, last year? If apply to the community hospital, how long will take you to get into your position?

thanks,

Ya...I have been looking this whole year. I applied EVERYWHERE!!! I graduated last May '08 and started working in Fresno. I was working in the Oncology Dept as an Extern so I didnt even have to interview. I just got the job as a RN in the dept.

I am not sure how long to get into a position. I wouldnt think too long. A month at the most. Apply and call recruiters. They arent used to RNs needing job like in the Bay Area.

I hope they won't filled now. Otherwise, I don't know where to go? What about living there? Is it easy to find the place to live? how much to rent? I don't know anybody there. How was the interview? Do they ask difficult nursing senario questions?

Do you know others still opening now? I will apply all just in case.

thanks,

Cost of living is cheap. I rent a room in the Tower District which is like 5 minutes to the hospital. Tower District is the funky part of town. Vintage homes...ect. Check out craigslist for Fresno. There are openings, apply online. Community Medical Center, Fresno. Also, remember there is Kaweah Delta in Visalia. 35min from Fresno and they opened up a new wing and are totally hiring.

In regards to Cedars Sinai new grad interviews, is anyone going on June 9th (Tuesday) ?? It seems like everyone's going on the 4th. I'm just wondering how many interview days they are having...

Just heads up...the nurse recruiter at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas is beginning to call applicants who applied to their new grad program to come in for interviews.

You mean on the cover page where we list our name, GPA, and desired unit? i'm asking for med-surg, although tele would be fine. actually ANYTHING would be fine.
