California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Fresno is still hiring!!! 2 1/2-3 hours from the Bay Area. I am from the Bay Area and got a job here! It is a Level 1 hospital with an ER as big as a football field and two helicopter pads. I am so so happy and very scared to leave cause I have heard BAD things about other hospitals. Apply away!!!! Houses are cheap too!!

hi,

Which hospital? It has been one year. I really need a job in the hospital. ER is good place to learn. Would you tell me more information? are they still hiring now? How was your interview? One of my friend told me that the interview is very hard, they usually give you difficult questions? I am afraid of that. You know I am new grad.

thanks,

I posted the link to the hospital above. It is Community Medical Center in Fresno. A Level 1 hospital with 500+ beds. The jobs online say 2 years exp BUT APPLY ANYWAY!! THEY DONT CARE!!! Again they are hiring and do not go by what the jobs says for experience required. They will WAIVE the exp so APPLY FOR THE JOB EVEN IF IT SAYS 2YEARS EXP REQUIRED!

I also heard that Kaweah Delta hospital near Fresno is off their hiring freeze as they opened a new wing. Kaweah Delta

Last May, 2008 at Community Medical Center in Fresno my classmates got jobs in Tele, ER, Stepdown, L&D, ICU, OR...etc. Last May the Educator said 100 New Grads were hired. The interveiws arent bad at all, HONEST.

Hurry up and apply!! New grads are applying and I am not sure how long they will have positions.

I applied for their new grad program I think late April or early May. My application status says manager review for the longest time.

Has anyone received a phone call from this hospital?

Yes. I heard that they hire from local grad school. Ex. CSU, bakersifield.

Thank you very much!

I am going to search now. But how to apply it. I just call the nursing recruiter, and wait for the call.

Do you know other hospitals around stockton, tracy, livermore, like 1 -1.5 hour away from san francisco, area are opening?

Thanks again

It is so depressing. I have been applying for the last year in the Bay Area and can not even get a phone call. I guess I should be thankful for my job as a RN in Oncology at Fresno Community Medical Center. Oh I wish the hiring freezes and economy would resolve in the Bay Area. I so want to move home!!!

Thank you very much!

Start applying online!! That is how I got my job. Community is a really good hospital! The ER is a level 1 and there are two helicoptor pads!

I have been looking for jobs in stockton, tracy, modesto...with no luck. My life is in the Bay Area and I only work in Fresno.

Yes. I heard that they hire from local grad school. Ex. CSU, bakersifield.

Yeah, that's the problem with other hospitals. They have a contract or preference to prioritize and hire graduates from the local schools like the hospitals in San Luis Obispo, Salinas, and Modesto.

me too..i still cant land a job right now, im still waiting for a call. im here at north county san diego and most of the hospitals minimum experience requirement id 1 yr. i never had an RN experience here in the states and only had a 2 month training in the PI. i am waiting for a call about the new grad residency program of scripps that i applied to. they'll start at july 6 and its been 2 weeks from the time they closed the submission of application. they are calling applicants now, and im in wait..

im thinking of volunteering to atleast gain an experience but where?.. right now, i cant seem to see the good result of carrying a bachelors degree in nursing and as an RN, its quite slow to land a job..

any suggestions?

How long did you look for in the bay area? the whole year? It is been total one year for me. Do you think they will hire the people grad in June, last year? If apply to the community hospital, how long will take you to get into your position?

thanks,
