UCLA MSN Fall 2014
Still have the no decision stuff on my page so it's not looking too good for me. Just really disappointing to not hear anything after all these months. I am going to try again next year as I had some costly stuff come up so I need to keep working for another year. I'm wondering if they can keep my transcripts on file so I don't have to resend them again. I'll email them after all this craziness is over. I'm crossing my fingers though. Congrats to all who got in.

UCSF MSN FALL 2014
Received my rejection email last Thursday for AC/AGNP which I expected because my recommendations weren't complete.

UCLA MSN Fall 2014
Mine hasn't changed either. I'm really hoping I get in because my job has become a hostile work environment and I need to get out of there soon.

My feet HURT!!!
Someone recommended Powerstep orthotics (on Amazon for $20) which saved my feet! I used to replace my shoes every 6 months or so but now I just replace the orthotics. I use them with my Skechers Shape Ups. I could use some new shoes but the old ones are still comfy. I still get the occasional ache, but only if I've been running around all night and don't get a chance to rest my feet.

Holder vs. Neck Draping for Littmann Cardio III?
I have the same stethoscope and I used to use a holder I bought on Amazon. It's called a Batclip. It's expensive but it looked really nice and easy to take out. Only reason I stopped using it is because I've lost a few pounds so the weight of the clip + stethoscope were making my pants fall down.

Laying off everyone
I'm not sure how many people have been laid off, but it's definitely going on at my hospital despite census being high. They are cutting hours for everyone. We went from having 2 CNAs on the floor to 1 and just the other night, they made our 1 CNA go home early. We nurses are being canceled too because they have contract nurses they have to use. We keep joking that RNs will now be housekeeping, RTs, phlebotomists, cooks etc but they way things are going it may be true.

God, my feet hurt!
Six months into working, my feet started hurting really bad. So much that I could barely hobble out of bed without being in pain. I've been wearing Shape-ups with Powerstep orthotics (bought em on Amazon.) I tried Dr. Scholls inserts but Powerstep by far has drastically helped reduced my foot pain. They're more expensive but worth the price to me. Lately I've been wearing compression stockings to work and sometimes wear them to bed if I'm working a few nights in a row. I just bought some expensive compression stockings as the ones I bought at Walmart weren't tight enough for me. I haven't worn them yet so I'll have to see how good they are. I spent a lot of money just on my feet lol but it was better than quitting nursing when the pain was so horrible I didn't want to get out of bed!

Koi Scrubs
Argh I'm really upset about my Koi pants! I'm a bigger gal so I have ..er a problem with my thighs rubbing together. Well, the fabric has worn away and now unwearable unless I find time to patch em together (yeah like that's gunna happen anytime soon!) These pants are way too expensive to replace. I'm going to try to save the newer ones that I bought and reinforce them. I really love these pants too, they fit perfectly and really comfy. Everyone always comments on how comfy they look.

shift differential and qualifying for mortgage
When I was looking for a home loan, they would only take my base pay into account. They told me they would only look at my shift differential if I had worked at my job for over a year. At that time, I was only 7-8 months into my job.

Anyone have CA hospital listings?
oops I forgot to renew the domain. To be honest, I haven't been able to give it the attention that it deserves lately. If anyone wants to take over, feel free to. I'll be glad to send the files over.

Most trivial complaint ever?
I had a patient in a 4 bed room. She did not have a nightstand to put all of her belongings in but I told her that her roommate was getting discharged and she could have it. When the other pt left, the husband wheeled it over... leaving it in front of the bathroom door. Being the considerate person I am, I moved the nightstand to the other side of her bed so that the other patients would be able to get to the bathroom. Of course she had a hissy fit, saying she was going to file a complaint because she wouldn't be able to reach her stuff.

California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?
No I'm not an employee there, but I have been searching job listings for new grads for the past few months. Haven't been able to update as much I have in the past cuz I just started working, but I'm getting a few Mondays free so I can do my more involved searching. Just been browsing websites as I can before I pass out
