It depends....I've heard some have taken as little as a few weeks and others as much as a few months....It's very hard to get a hold of the California BRN....Via email/phone/fax...it's very hard....I'm still waiting after 6 weeks of my first initial contact....Also, you must provide proof by transcripts, but make sure that you have all clinical hours finished....I know California has their panties in a wad when it comes to that....I'm not sure what they will make you do if the school you graduated from doesn't meet their minimum requirement......Good Luck!

I live in Arizona and applied for a Cal. RN license by endorsement and it took 5 weeks. I needed a California license for my job as a nurse you must be licensed in California to do a telephone assessment on a Cal. resident. I used NURSYS.com for the verifacation of my AZ. license. You will need a clean set of fingerprints and use a piece of cardboard in the envelope so the card does not get bent, if the card gets bent the FBI will reject it. Just follow the requirements on the boards web site and you should be fine.

Good Luck, Mark

Funny thing really... I am a Californian, native born, whom went to school in another state. I originally registered to take the NCLEX with Cali, however they took to long to process my application, so I reregistered out of state and now have to get the endorsement from cali. My prints cleared (I verified) and transcripts on file, simply awaiting out of state verification form to be submitted to cali (no nursy's). I hope to take the endorsement application with the $50 fee to Sacramento... and God willing... get a temporary license... seeing California finally gave me a Iterim Permit (now null and void due to my out of state lic) while awaiting for the out of state verification... Assuming I get the temporary license in my hand... am i dreaming???

I drove in from Florida and went straight to Sacramento. First I went to the Dept of Justice and did the fingerprinting; that took one hour. Nest I went to the BRN with my filled out ap that I printed from their website, my passport photo, fingerprint card, transcripts and a check. That took two hours. I walked out with a temporary license and they sent my permanent license in the mail. I love walk through states!

I got my temporary license the same day that I went to Sacramento. Was out the door with it in my hands before 1 pm.

As long as they have received the verification from the BON for your state if they are not on Nursys, they will issue it to you the same day.

The permanent license requires that they have received your transcripts directly from your nursing school.

If training does not meet their requirements, then they will not issue a license to someone. It could be as easy as making up a class or two, or not being able to get it entirely; e.x. attending Excelsior and then planning to endorse to CA, they are not going to approve it.

NCLEX exam has reciprocity, licenses do not. This means that your training must meet the requirements for the new state that you are interested in and be aware that not all programs meet the requirements for all states. Each state is free to set their own requirements.

I agree with the above. I am licensed in CA as an RN and moved to TN. After submitting all the paperwork, fees and finger prints I got a letter stating that I had educational deficits which has delayed my licensure here.

I'm completing Music Appreciation online thru Regents, will submit my transcript to my California college and obtain the additional degree or diploma . Then I will resubmit to the BRN here in TN, requesting a temp permit. Hopefully it will move faster this time.

In the meantime, I do travel back to CA and work shifts thru my registry there. It's been frustrating but a good lesson. Research the educational requirements for whatever State you are planning to work in.

I just got mine!

I am from New York.

I downloaded the application form from the CA-BRN website on 12/22/08 and I got the fingerprint done on 12/24/08. I sent them out on 12/31/08. I followed their instructions and they printed my temp license on 1/16/2009. I received the temp license-RN a few days ago. However, the fingerprint result was rejected by the FBI and I have to do it again. It was done by the New York City Police Department(NYPD). Well, as long as I got my temp license, I will start looking for work in California.
