Cali travel pay

Published

I am considering travel nursing to Cali. I was told I can make upward to $3000/week in med/surg. Can anyone share their experiences traveling to California.

Depending on where you are at in Cali, housing could eat a pretty good chunk of that money. Something to consider.

Med surg unlikely at the moment. Maybe during the winter for crisis. L&D and OR crisis rates get that throughout the year.. Some crisis rates in Sacramento were paying ICU 3391 a week but after tax 2600.

I have two med surg friends working in the LA area in telemetry and med surg. One is bringing home $1700 a week after taxes and the other is around $1500. These are different hospitals so that's why there is a little difference in pay. The San Fran area is well known to give about $3000 a week during the winter if you want to work in Oakland and are willing to do 48 hours a week.

With which agency?

^^medical staffing solutions. PM me for the recuriter. The positions are filled right now. Maybe some in the fall. I am sure many are renewing. LOL

Hi everyone! I sure would like to know the ins and outs of travel nursing recruiters in Cali. I'm currently getting quotes from mine who is staffed with Integrated Healthcare Solutions. Anyone heard of them? Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated!

Tried to PM you but realized I haven't made enough posts.

I looked up medical staffing solutions in google and there's a good 4-5 different companies on the first page. Which one would you recommend?

Thanks for your time!

There are many agencies with medical solutions in their title, and three that are called Medical Staffing Solutions. The largest of them (and thus the one usually referred to) is Omaha based. The medium sized one is based in Indiana and is nurse owned and operated. The smallest one is based in Wisconsin and appends an "Inc." to their name or even shorter as MSSI. They are super traveler friendly and usually pay better than most agencies. The downside is that they don't have the same breadth of assignments.

Honestly, all three have great reputations so your odds with any of them are good. Use Google and the state of location to find them.

Bear in mind that the agency brand is not as important as your communication quality and relationship with your recruiter. It is also good to be signed up with several agencies for lots of good reasons. Talk to at least a dozen agencies and pick the three recruiters you click with to sign up fully. Don't bother with agencies that won't talk to you until you sign up - in fact try not to give any agency your contact until you are convinced you want to work for them. But don't give out contact info at all until you have talked to at least three agencies and can start to sort the BS from straight talk.

I'm in the Sacramento ish area in ED with a net of $2500/week 36 hrs. There were med surg in Sac this winter getting $3300 gross/36 hrs at the Dignity health hospitals but those rates are over. Everything's dropped considerably for summer.

Im in SF with take home of just over $3000 a week. I dont have to deal with housing so it isnt as big of an issue for me to work there. Im OR.

Argo, how are you not dealing with housing?? The reason I ask is thought I remember you saying somewhere that you were in an RV? But I could be mistaking you with someone else? I am doing the RV thing now and its been great but I have kind of written off San Fran due to the expensive RV parks that are not that close to San Fran. If I could stay in the hospital parking lot I could potentially make some good money!
