Cali lottery nursing schools

U.S.A. California

does anyone know of any good nursing schools in california that go by the lottery system?

I'm not confident in my GPA, as I have a few A's but several B's and C's for my pre-reqs. Really want to go into nursing but don't want to completely be turned away because my GPA isn't as competitive. Samuel Merritt is one of the schools I'm looking to apply to, but I'm not sure how much of a chance I'll have. :crying2:

I read something that said all california community colleges are using the lottery system, but as far as I know, all community colleges only offer ADN programs. I'm interested in getting a BSN, but also desperate to get into any school that will take me.

if you know of any private, csu's, or even good community college programs that you know of.. anything that will help... please share! :)

Apply to as many schools as you can afford to. You never know what might happen between the time you send off an application packet and the time that packet is evaluated.

Fresno City College in Fresno, CA is completley lottery based. Good Luck!!

Ok, since your GPA is crappy according to you., which I think its fine, as long as you don't have all c's or something.remember

Beggars can't be choosers

my all total gpa is probably around 2.8-3.2

and my science pre-req gpa is 2.0 atm but i have to take physio and micro bio still.

all of the schools i've looked at have needed at least 3.7+ gpa to be competitive. is my gpa still fine to you?

I know everyone always wants to look at the brighter side of things, but you guys have to be realistic. It's going to be very very very hard, if at all possible, for you to get in anywhere. You need to start retaking a lot of classes if you really want to get in to nursing. If that's what you want though, go for it.

well your stats aren't exactly ideal nor, steller.

YOur going to have to take physio and micro and get A's on both. bottom line, if you dont your pretty much need to apply to waitlist programs!

I dont mean to be harsh or anything but that is reality of it. like the previous posters stated...you need know the reality of how hard its going to be. and if you are having a hard time with the pre reqs, then once you do get accepted you'll be in for a rude awakening!

the thing is waitlist/lottery schools are extremely popular for people who aren't good at science pre-reqs or simply didn't try hard enough (now they realize you can't get into nursing school with straight C's)

Good Luck

yeah, i very much realize that i should've and could've done better. I was just wondering if there was hope for me to get into a school without having to retake any of my classes. I'm very willing to do so though, 'cause I know nursing is what i wanna do.

I'm sure i can pull off those A's in my last two science pre-reqs. Do you think that would give me a good chance to get accepted into a private school?

Aim for As is priority and if worse comes to worse apply to private thy might be a little easier to get into but don't quote me.

Lol I misquoted you Sass, and said ALL schools, sorry.

But to comment your post, there are a few schools in Cali that use a lottery. GWC, for one

i know for sure that chabot, merritt, los medanos, ohlone, ccsf use lottery systems. these are community colleges with adn programs in northern ca. they have to first select candidates with at least the minimum requirements and above. then they put all the names in a lottery and select however many for their program and waitlist. they each have a different way of computing who gets to go through lottery though. some have different rules for their lotteries as well--such as putting one name in twice because they've applied once before. i can't really name any bsn programs using the lottery system, and i assume they're using grades and such to make their decisions. sfsu's selection process seems the most iffy in my opinion. selections seemed to be more random than based on what the student has achieved (grades, test scores, volunteer/work experience, etc).

These are the schools off the top of my head that are waitlist: (I think a lot of schools got rid.of lottery, its dumb and unfair)

Mt SAC

Cerritos

SBVC

Cerritos is not a waitlist program, it's a lottery.

Mt SAC is also a lottery program. And I think ELAC as well. But Mt SAC states on their site that they are currently not accepting new applications for the nursing program for the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters.

Los Angeles Harbor College is a lottery system as well.
