Calhoun CC Fall 2014

Published

Anyone applying for Calhoun's nursing program this fall? I am and I am really anxious and excited!!!

I got it on Amazon for 41

Almost time for orientation!!! I'm so excited and ready to get this over with! ;)

I'm following a good Pinterest Board called IStudent Nurse. It has tons of info and I got my Pharm book yesterday it weighs about 6 lbs. How on earth can any human put all that and all the other books info into their head?

Fundamentals book is almost as big as the pharmacology book.

It seems like a bunch of info, but it can be learned. All the nurses out there did and we will too.

Yea my friend says, How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. LoL. ?

Hey guys, I'm not buying the school bundle. I bought all my books on amazon for $462. No tax, free shipping. That included the Davis Drug Guide, and Davis comprehensive HDBK. I however, did not purchase SIMCHART. When I do purchase it, I still will have saved over $100 (seeing the above price has the drug guides included).

I was looking at amazon as well. Do you know if the amazon books include the ebook as well? The bundle does not include all the books we need. It would have been nice to do a bundle that includes everything.

The amazon books are print only. I was adamant about purchasing all of mine on Amazon but now I'm thinking I might like to have the ebooks as well. By all means buy the Pharm book on Amazon. I paid 64 for it, brand new with access code and bookstore is asking 226 for it. The 3 book Davis/Taber bundle is the same price I found on Amazon.

I will definitely buy the Pharmacology book on amazon. At first I didn't think I would care to have the ebook but one of the instructors mentions that it will read the text to you and I thought that might be nice occasionally. Has anyone purchased shoes or a stethoscope yet? The sheet they gave us had a $17.95 stethoscope, but I have heard to buy a good one since it's something we will use the whole time.

We need a dual head correct? They didn't mention that yesterday. I'm getting a littmann.

My hubby bought me a Littmann a month or so ago. Working as a CNA previously I would say to splurge if you can for a good one. Taking manual blood pressures and patient assessments are hard to do if you can't hear clearly. I always had trouble hearing with my cheaper one but when I tried the Littmann it was a huge difference! Allheart.com is running a sale on them now.

I'm not doing the ebooks. They're neat and the stuff you can do with them sounds nice, but I don't need them really. I've done much better price wise buying used and buying from Amazon and directly from Elsevier. I meant to ask, but forgot in all the info floating around, if they using the Med Surg book in Fundamentals or if it is just a perk in the bundle. I know we'll need it later in the program, just trying to plan for purchasing it earlier if needed.

I got a dual head stethoscope from MDF instruments. I wanted a good yet affordable one. Good enough to be able to discern different sounds, affordable enough that it would be easy to replace if it wandered away. Several reviewers on Amazon said it is comparable to Littmann, not sure about that but it works well.
