Calhoun CC Fall 2014

Published

Anyone applying for Calhoun's nursing program this fall? I am and I am really anxious and excited!!!

Specializes in Med-surgical, nephro, substance rehab.

You are so welcome scross0613...we gotta stick together! I'm just glad that you found out like I did too late that the books are cheaper on Amazon. I agree that you need to get new books so you will have the codes. In later semesters, there might be classes where you don't need the codes, but I'm sure you will learn that as you go along. I'm just so excited for all of you, and I hope I get to see y'all grow in your nursing student careers. :)

The publisher website (Elsevier) has the Fundamentals book for $104.80 + free shipping. There is tax, though, but not 10%.

Hey guys, I have been reading over all your posts and checking the CCC bookstore website and I am totally overwhelmed..lol

Looking at the book list in the bookstore, most everything is listed as "Digital". Are these all e books? I wonder if we can choose between paper and e books...guess I will find out at orientation next week!

Also, if you have bought your shoes already, what kind did you get?

THANKS!

Hi Mel234! There are options for buying the print version through the bookstore, too. If you hit the + on the right side of the screen you should see options for buying new, used, renting, and digital. Lots of options. I'm buying print books, unless there's one I feel is better to buy digital (like NCLEX guides). I'm used to studying surrounded by open books, notes everywhere, and a box of highlighters so that's what I plan on doing with this.

I got a pair of Klogs. They're similar to the Danskos everyone talks about, but I found them on sale a little while ago so that's what I got. With the shoes, they have to be all white. I was talking to someone who just graduated this past May yesterday, and she said that they are very picky about the all white shoes. No logos (on the bottom is ok), no silver accents, etc. I highly suggest getting leather shoes (this may be required too), for extra protection from drops and for easy cleaning.

I bought a pair of Dansko clogs from The Walking Company. They are so comfortable! Ugly though, lol

I was given a new pair of nurse mates by a good friend of mine. The shoes are all white with a little blue heart on the side. If they said something about that I would just laugh and pry it off.

Im still waiting to buy the books, it may be last minute because I don't want to buy anything we may not need. The bundle is a good deal, but I still think Amazon, Chegg, and this nursing club could be a better option.

I got the pharmacology book and a couple others from the person who just graduated. All in like new condition, including the code. Y'all, that book is thick and heavy.

She gave me the planner she bought when she started, she never used it. She said some of the info in the front was useful, but most of it was in other books. She also said she never used the Taber's. She showed it to me...it was mint.

One thing y'all might want to buy new is the Davis's Drug Guide. It comes with a code for a year subscription to the online drug guide. It can be accessed by anything with a web browser, might be useful to have so you don't have to carry the book around with you (it's not as big as the pharm book, but it's not small either).

She also said that they will "scare the crap" out of us at Orientation. She didn't go into specifics, but apparently they make it sound awful.

I've heard that too about orientation. Basically they tell you how difficult it will be and that not everyone will make it. If we have made it this far I know we can make it all the way! I just bought my uniforms and labcoat plus ordered all the misc supplies. All I need now are books but I am waiting until orientation for that. I didn't know this but parkway scrubs keeps calhoun's patches in stock. Saved me a trip to Decatur, lol

I just bought the Tabers wonder if I should send it back. Waiting on the Pharm book. Calhoun wanted $226 for it and I found it new for $64. Wonder why they are so "harsh" for the lack of a better term at orientation?

Not everyone is meant to be a nurse. Some people get into the program not really understanding the work ahead of them, and they fail. They just want us to all have a reality check. Game on!

Where is a good place to buy the Davids's drug guide?
