I'm going to be applying to Calhoun as well! It's been a long road coming for me to apply to any nursing school, and I don't want anything to prevent me from getting my application in!
Which program with ya'll being to? I'm going for the full time ADN.
Full time ADN for me also. Does anyone have any ideas on the additional non-tuition costs?
Got question about Calhoun's 1st semester textbooks. Do they change editions each admittance period? I see they are approximately $800 for first semester books. I know someone who is selling one edition previous for $50. So they are one edition behind now and wonder if they will be 2 editions behind in Fall when I am applying. Do they change that much? Sounds like an awesome but. And which ones need online codes because I would have to buy those.
I am going to try for the part time evening program since I work full time. As far as I know the books change a lot, I would wait before buying them. I feel like it is going to take forever to find out if I got in or not. Hurry up June! :)
Since you are going to live in Muscle Shoals it may be better to attend NWSCC. When it is time for clinicals, Calhoun does them all over and it may make it an even longer drive for you whereas NWSCC may only do clinicals in the shoals area which would be closer to your home. I have a friend in the program at Calhoun now and plan on entering (if I get accepted) there this fall and she told me that they really do not care where you live when it is time to assign clinicals. Good luck with whichever one you choose! :)
Yea I spoke with the manager of the bookstore and he said they are probably going to change books this fall. He said it's not too bad just to change editions but if they change authors it really could be a problem. I've resigned myself to the fact it's gonna cost an arm and leg this first semester.
I know, right? I'm afraid of the costs but excited about finally starting the program. I just wish it wasn't such a long wait to find out if we get in or not! Lol
Hello all!
I'm taking my TEAS on Monday. Have any of you taken yours yet? I'm going to go back and look at past Calhoun students here and see what they got in with. I've taken both practice online tests (68, 76) and one of the ATI book's pratice tests (79). This test has exhausted me more than ACT or final!
Those are good scores. When I went to take my TEAS at Calhoun the testing instructor told us that in the 60's is like making an A and anything above is great. Also, your score is added with your other points for pre-reqs and being a Calhoun student for a possible 200 total. Last year I think the cutoff was 130 or so for Full Time Days and 140 for Part Time Evening. Make sure to brush up on Chemistry and Earth Science, those were the areas I scored the lowest and most people don't expect those to be on there. Good Luck!

I will be taking A&P and Micro this Summer and hopefully will begin in Spring (fingers crossed). Do you all know much about Calhoun graduates and their ability to land jobs after graduation? That is what I am most nervous about!
