Calhoun CC Fall 2014

Published

Anyone applying for Calhoun's nursing program this fall? I am and I am really anxious and excited!!!

I just signed up for the class on the 12th! Thank you for getting the info and sharing!

Guys what nbr did y'all call and do we pay when we get there. I need to call also

Yep we pay when we arrive! n/p

Just dropped off my acceptance letter! If anyone else does and is unfamiliar with the health science building the office is on the 3rd floor. I never go to the Decatur campus so I had no clue lol

HEHE! The day I took TEAS-V I was the moron driving in circles and I had to hunt down someone in the janitorial dept at 7:30AM in the bathroom to ask where the health building was. I gave her a good laugh. :banghead:

Has anyone started buying supplies yet? I found a stethoscope and shoes I love but I wonder if I should wait because I have heard they are picky about shoes.

The only thing I have gotten so far is a couple pair of scrubs from a recent graduate. I think I will wait until after the 23rd to do anything else. I tried to reach the Madison FD as well and only got the voicemail. Left my info but haven't heard anything back.

I found 2 pairs of shoes at the tent sale at Parkway Scrubs for ten bucks each. The shoes must be all white and closed toes is all I was told.

I have bought couple pairs of scrub pants and my lab coat. Parkway Scrubs had the style nbrs. I also have those nbrs if anyone needs them. I bought my nurse watch, pocket organizer with scissors and penlight and school supplies. They said you can use any color of those items you want. Yippee cause I'm a pink aholic. I am waiting on the stethoscope until after orientation.

This website has the best scrub prices thatI have found and there is free shipping over $99.

As far as the Madison Fire Department, the man's name is Russ and he will call you back. I am still a bit concerned about that class and have an email in to Mark Brannon at Calhoun but no response yet.

Mark told me that the certificate/card must have AHA or ARC on it. Russ at fire department said it isn't a AHA or ARC class but it is taught to AHA standards. The class is ASHI, (American Safety & Health Institute)

scross0613 I am CPR certified but the nursing program doesn't accept the card I have. I emailed and asked them and they emailed me back the cards they accept. There are 3 different ones they accept.

CPR CARDS ACCEPTED BY CALHOUN HEALTH DIVISION:

1. American Heart Association – Healthcare Provider

2. American Red Cross – CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Providers

3. American Safety & Health Institute – CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer

Hope this helps.

Scross can you use a regular wristwatch? I want a pair of Algeria? I think they are called shoes. Do they have them at Parkway Medical?

It is frustrating that orientation is only about two weeks from the start of classes. Has anyone found a good site for purchasing the nursing textbooks? I am hoping most books are not, "generic". That would limit it to only Calhoun books, and they are outrageously expensive. As for shoes, watches, books, scissors, BP cuff, and stethescope I am holding off until after orientation. This secures my purchases.

Also, for scrubs our program only accepts Landua correct?
