Calhoun CC Fall 2014

Published

Anyone applying for Calhoun's nursing program this fall? I am and I am really anxious and excited!!!

I second the ATI manual. It went over everything, and was a very good review on stuff I hadn't seen in at least a decade. I also brushed up on math by doing exercises on Khan academy.

I'm probably going to have to take out more loans for this, too. I already have a small car's worth from my BS, what's a little more? Books, uniforms, and etc will all be OOP though. I've been looking for a job to help pay for some of it, but so far no luck.

Do any of y'all know how much the CPR class through Calhoun is? I've been looking at doing part online and the skills check at HH, and am wondering if Calhoun is any cheaper.

I bought used scrubs with lab coat for $100 with our patches from a last semester student. Also after our first semester we can apply at Hospitals. Some people I know already work for them without CNA or first semester of clinicals, but usually that is a difficult thing to get into without knowing an employee. Starting as a tech you can make 11.50 ( starting)

Also getting 12 hour shifts is what is doable for me. 2X a week to pay for gas/ bills until I get this degree!

The Nursing Club sells used scrubs for $5 each after semester starts. The books are what are a killer. I contacted the fire department and they offer the CPR class for health professionals for $50. That's the cheapest I have found but have not checked Calhouns class price yet

Calhoun' class is billed as a credit hour which ends up with fees being around $140 with a $35 book/code. Which fire department offers it cheaper scross? I know Red Cross charges $110. I really don't want to shell out that much unless it's necessary.

Anyone else nervous about the workload? I work a full time Monday through Friday job and have a two year old. I am doing the PTE program and all my pre-reqs are done so hopefully it won't be worse than taking one or two regular classes.

Which fire department...Madison?

I've applied to 23 non-certification required jobs at HH over the past few months, and interviewed for one. It's HARD getting a job there apparently.

I specifically wanted PTE for the lighter workload. I have to with three kiddos and needing a job. I went to grad school while working full time a few years ago (only had two kiddos at the time) and it was rough, but I survived. We can survive this, too.

I think we all want it bad enough that it won't be as bad as others make it seem. Crap I'm going to see if I can drop the class and get my money back if I can get a cheaper class. I know Red Cross has one but is it the BLS we are required to have?

Yes it's BLS for Healthcare Providers. I saw where they were having them at HH earlier this year but I didn't see any future dates listed. It looks like almost everywhere is cheaper than Calhoun.

Ive applied 16 times so far too. It's ridiculous.

I am nervous about the #workload too...I also have three kids. I am quitting my job for this... Nervous about it ALL.

I was wondering the same thing about the CPR cert. Yes I figured the same amount 140 for the class and 35 for book. There has got to be a cheaper way...
