Hi guys!
I wanted to reach out and see if anyone has applied or is planning to apply for the Summer 2017 cohort of Cal State San Marco's ABSN program? This cohort is at the satellite campus in Temecula.
I finally just finished all my pre-reqs and was able to complete my application today ( I had a couple classes to finish during the Fall term. )
I wanted to reach out and see if anyone has heard back? I have my points evaluation but that is the only thing I have gotten back so far!!
Good luck to everyone and I hope to see some posts!
I'm a little bummed that I didn't apply for the Spring cohort because I don't want to go to Temecula. When I was applying I didn't understand that they accept 3 cohorts per year and only one cohort is actually in San Marcos.
My aunt lives in Vista, about 10 minutes from the San Marcos campus, so it was going to be really convenient for me to stay with her. Temecula would be a 45 minute drive from there. Not too bad, I guess, but not as convenient. I currently live in Los Angeles, so either way I will have to move.
When all is said and done, I will be happy to just to get in and get started, though!
What other schools is everyone applying to? I just submitted my application to Cal State LA's ABSN, and also applied to USD, UCLA, and University of Texas (all 3 entry level master's programs).
I was aiming for the San Marcos site as well! I went to USD for my undergrad and would have preferred to stay closer to San Diego and then make the commute to San Marcos, but I will likely live closer to San Marcos and then commute to Temecula if I get in as I believe many clinicals may take place in the San Diego..but I agree, I will just be happy to get accepted!
I have applied all over the place, pretty much every program on NursingCas! I just went outside of Cas for CSUSM because I want to stay in San Diego so badly. My back up will be Regis in Denver.
I only applied to ABSN routes just because of a friend's advice/avoiding the mistakes she made, but I have heard great things about UCLA's entry level program!
Hi everyone!
I have been looking for a thread for the summer 2017 cohort for a while now. I'm glad somebody started one. I have just graduated and now applying to nursing schools, with San Marcos being my number one choice. I'm at 28-29 points. I am nervous as is everyone else. I am curious where I stand with the rest of the applicants.
How many points were you guys evaluated at?

Neat! I went to UCSD for undergrad and lived in the area for 6 years, so I love SD and have always wanted to move back!!
When I attended the info session for CSUSM, I'm pretty sure they said that for the Temecula cohorts the clinical would be around Riverside/San Bernadino county :/ not positive if I'm remembering that correctly, so we can hope!
They also mentioned how it's possible to defer your enrollment to attend the San Marcos location, provided that there is space in the program. While that is very tempting if I were to be accepted, I'm not too keen on waiting another 2-3 semesters to start :/
j6doll ...Oh man!!! They may be up that way, I was reading older posts from previous years, they had some down in San Diego and I was hoping they kept it that way. It was an older post though:no: That's okay though, maybe we will get lucky enough to have a couple down in San Diego!
ydoc I got 42 points on my evaluation

She did an entry level MSN and has just struggled a lot to find work because she does not have much work experience. So she walked away with an MSN, but has less experience than most who have their BSN. She recommended the entry level MSN to someone who has had a lot of experience to add to their resume before looking for jobs after graduation. Also, she walked away as a Clinical Nurse Leader (she said many entry level MSN programs lead to CNL...I'm not sure the details of this!) But she learned along the way that she would have loved to become a neonatal NP, this is where her heart was. But now, she spent a lot of money on the MSN and would have to go back for more school to become a neonatal NP.
For me, I would like to one day go back for my MSN, but I am unsure of the area just yet because I do not have too much experience. She recommended the BSN ( a little cheaper) and then work for a couple of years and get experience, and if you are lucky, your work may help pay for additional schooling as well! But it really depends on if you know exactly what you would want your focus to be
Hi everyone!
I originally applied for the Spring 2017 cohort but was waitlisted along with several other people due to the timing of my application. I was finishing up my last quarter of pre-requisites when the applications were due, and unfortunately my final transcript got to CSUSM a few days after the priority deadline, so although I ended up being evaluated at 32 points (and others were accepted at 30 points), I got waitlisted for the Spring term. I was pretty disappointed because San Marcos would have been a much more convenient campus as I plan on living further south, but I'm bound and determined to get in for the summer term despite that fact!
I've had a lot of correspondence back and forth with CSUSM (for the past 6 months, in fact) and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the process (at least based on what I've experienced so far.) In October 2016 (just after I'd found out about getting waitlisted for the Spring term) I asked my advisor what the next steps would be and what the process would be like for getting into the Summer term. She originally told me that for the upcoming Summer term, the first acceptances would go out in January (which clearly didn't happen...) but when I emailed my advisor again a week or two ago, she informed me that the first round of acceptances would go out in February. Based on my experience from the Spring term, I can say with confidence that if you got your transcripts and application completed by the priority deadline and you have a decent point spread, you have a fighting chance of getting in. If you got your application in after the priority deadline, you are going to be pushed further down the priority list because there are already around 10 people on the waitlist from the Spring term whose completed apps were already submitted for review for Summer admission.
I'd like to add, because this was not something I was told by anyone (and it led to a lot of stress on my part): CSUSM does NOT send you any type of notification if you do not get into the program. There is no rejection email or letter. They will only notify you if you get into the program, OR if you email them to ask what your status is. I waited for quite a long time to get notified about what was going on before I cracked and emailed my advisor asking for an update.
Hopefully that makes sense! I'm happy to elaborate on any details you'd like more info on. I am pulling for everyone on this thread and really hoping that we all get in! I feel cautiously optimistic at this point; it's pretty much a plan for the worst but hope for the best kind of feeling. I'm going to send my apps out elsewhere just in case, but I really truly hope we all get in! Good luck to you all! May the odds be ever in your favor!
