My friend and I applied to the nursing program at Cal State East Bay for Fall 2010 and she received her conditional acceptance package to the nursing program today. I on the other hand have only received an email (last week) requesting transcripts for the nursing department even though my application went in before hers. On the website it says that throughout December they will be emailing out requests for transcripts, not acceptance packages, so I was just wondering if I should be worried. Has anybody else received an acceptance or conditional acceptance package?
There are a few UD GE requirements, but some of the required nursing courses cover them.
http://www.csueastbay.edu/ge covers it in depth.
You will need to take HDEV 3800 (human development) for nursing, and it covers UD social science. You will need to take HIST 4710 (history of nursing) and it covers UD humanities. there is an UD science requirement, and also a "cultural groups/women" requirement that doesn't necessarily have to be UD. You also have to take the two "code" courses if you haven't already, and four units of performing arts/activities if you haven't already.
Also, congrats!! :)
Someone above said it was really hard to get into.

This thread has some helpful links and book recommendations about drug calculations.
Wow thanks jennafezz. You outlined it really well for me. I found this page earlier but it looked so much like the lower division GE I took at chabot that I completely overlooked the upper division classes. Do you know, if I take the human development class at chabot, would that count as upper division? Because they are offering it this summer. And not to sound slow, but what is a code course?
Glad it doesn't seem like too many classes. I was worried I would have to go four years to get the extra classes in.
No problem! :)
If you take human development at Chabot, it *might* count for the human development nursing requirement, but it will not count as the UD GE requirement. So really, I would wait to take the human development class at CSUEB. They offer it online, and if you get a good professor, it's very easy.
Also, in order to graduate from CSUEB, you must take 12 units of general education in residence. That means that you need to take at least three GE classes at CSUEB to get a degree from there, and the UD GE requirements are good to fulfill this.
Code means the US History/Constitution requirement. Most students fulfill this by taking two US history classes - "before 1877" and "after 1877". There are some other classes that can also meet the requirement. If you haven't already fulfilled it, they would probably be good to take this summer. Info on that is here: http://www.csueastbay.edu/ge/gerequirements/americancode.htm
Oh okay, that makes sense. It's also good to hear they offer it online. I was worried I wouldn't be able to sign up for the GE classes during the regular semester because I hear they change the nursing schedules around so much. Maybe if I'm lucky I can get most of the UD GE online. That way I don't have to pay tons more to do summer classes. I believe I completed the US history/ constitution requirement when I took politics 1 and one of the history classes (I think it was the since 1877 class) at Chabot.
Were you already enrolled at East Bay when you got into the program? You seem to have a better understanding of the whole system.
And finally, does anyone have any good recommendations on drug calculation books? I can't get out there to take that class twice a week this summer so I'd rather just read a book on it.
Yeah, I am already enrolled at CSUEB. I started off majoring in Health Sciences so I had to figure out all this stuff like a year ago.. really annoying.
I have completed all of my UD GE online, except for the performing art/activity, I don't think they offer anything online for that. But that's not UD anyway, hopefully you've already done something for that.. I still need to.
Beginner's guide to dosage calculations - Nursing for Nurses - this thread has a lot of book recommendations. I just ordered an old edition of "Calculate with Confidence".

YAY! I was put on the waitlist for east bay and they just called me and told me they had a spot for me. Very exciting. I got into Ohlone but I really wanted to go to a BSN program. I'm still waiting to hear from CSU stanislaus in Turlock though. From what you guys wrote it seems like this is a pretty good school. Does anyone know if we have to complete an additional upper division GE? I finished my GE at chabot, but I believe that is just for lower division. Is there a lot of classes required for upper GE?
Oh and I chose Hayward.
