BSN program @ UFV September 2014 Intake

Published

Hello,

I have just completed my application for the BSN program at UFV for the September 2014 Intake. I thought I would start this thread for anyone wanting to share their thoughts, ask some questions etc. The deadline is fast approaching! As far as I know interviews take place in March and decisions usually are done in May. I have a sister who is in fourth semester at UFV and is loving it! She found this site very helpful while going through the application process as it tends to be a long one!

Toretto,

if you don't mind me asking, did you receive your invite to the info session on Thursday or Friday a few days ago?

I know when my sister got her interview (2 years ago) she called and they will tell you when they are doing interviews and you pick a day you are available. Also, I know some do get interview times right away. Kbevans - if I remember correctly you have hands on experience relating to what is covered in first year - moving patients etc (I think that was you!) so they probably liked that a lot. My sister also worked at a place for the elderly + made house calls on her own - a little more than a volunteer deals with (she wasn't an actual care aide but would make meals, empty bed pans, clean up etc) so some of the things you do in first year. So for those they are sure they want to meet with - I know they set up interviews right away!! Great job guys! I will be watching my email closely today!!

Just a quick word to anyone who is still waiting for an info session invite: they have all been sent out as of last week so if you haven't received one, don't torture yourself any longer looking at your email. :(

super sad that I didn't get a chance this intake but have spoken to Health Sciences and have been advised of the one thing I need to improve on. I at least now feel more confident for the next intake.

congrats to all of you who have made it to the info sessions and beyond and best of luck to you!!!!

Ok sooo I broke down and called Health Science today. Invites to the 2nd info session, which has been moved to "somewhere around March 25th" have NOT gone out yet, and right now they are looking at gpa's of 3.5 and above (Mine is 3.3 DAMN YOU MATH!!!). No word on when the second invites will be send out, so I guess its more wait and see :/

Ahhh!! When did you speak to health science?? I just got off the phone with them, and was told the 2nd info invites have not been sent, and there still will be a second info session around March 25th

Never land, that is so weird!!! She told me today also that they had been sent out already! And also the same here with me. 3.33 was my GPA THANKS TO MATH!!!!! Grrrr! So I need to if that and hope for the best in January.

Meghan111, I got my invite to the information session weeks ago. I got my e-mail to set up an interview on Mar.14th. Feel free to ask me whatever is on your mind.

Thanks everyone for the info.

Toretto: When is your interview? I have mine booked for April 2nd (I wanted time to visit with a career counselor at UFV to ask questions)

I'm really nervous for the interview, I really hope I don't blow it..

kbevans56, my interview is on Mar. 31st. I would be lying if I said I was not nervous as well for the interview. I am also stressing over the essay questions. That sounds like a great idea to talk to a career counselor before your interview. I am sure the career counselor will make you feel less stressed if that is even possible. Trust me, I know how you feel. It feels like everything has come down to three short essay questions and an interview. Just be yourself and believe in yourself, and I am sure you will do fantastic. I wish you the best of luck on April 2nd.

I'm in my third semester of nursing at UFV

I just wanted to let all of you know that the essay is nothing to worry about at all! Its basically three questions that you have to answer in paragraph form. Trust me its not hard! However, they do look at spelling and grammar.. And the questions are very straight forward for example they might ask you to explain a time in your life where you felt successful and what factors influenced that. No answer is incorrect you just have to provide examples and back up what you are saying.

For the interview.. also nothing to be worried about! The nursing faculty are very nice they make you feel comfortable so don't stress! I would like to recommend however to go over some interview questions that are posted in previous threads. I got in my second try so don't be discouraged if you don't get in this time! One thing they like is if you have a lot of health care experience and volunteer hours.. use that to your advantage in your interview! Reflect back and use examples from health care settings (hospital, residential homes, clinics).

Some questions to consider are:

What stresses you out? How do you deal with stress? How does stress affect your health?

How do you prioritize things?

What are your study habits like?

Define leadership, and what a good leader means to you.

Give an example where you used good communication skills.

What is the relationship between a doctor and a nurse

What is the relationship between a nurse and patient

Name some good qualities of a nurse

What does being a nurse mean to you?

What sets you apart from the rest of the applicants?

Good luck to everyone! I know it feels tough to go through this process but trust me it's worth it. Remember if it doesn't work out this time don't give up hope. Try try and try again :)

Hi there everyone! I'm so glad I found this thread!!! I'm honestly starting to get quite a bit of anxiety over all of this. I have wanted to be a nurse since I was very little, and I'm getting closer and closer to my dream.

I'm a second-time applicant to the UFV BSN program. I didn't get in last intake due to my "grades." I decided to upgrade my English 091, so now my grades are at 2 A's, 1 A+ (from English 091, thank goodness) and 1 B. That leaves me at 3.83 GPA and I am certainly happy with that. I have my information session on Wednesday 19th, so soon! I also scheduled for my interview on April 7th. kbevans56, which types of questions are you planning on asking the career counselor? That's a brilliant idea.

Thank you so much for listing the interview examples! I am more nervous for the interview than anything else!
