Hello,

I have just completed my application for the BSN program at UFV for the September 2014 Intake. I thought I would start this thread for anyone wanting to share their thoughts, ask some questions etc. The deadline is fast approaching! As far as I know interviews take place in March and decisions usually are done in May. I have a sister who is in fourth semester at UFV and is loving it! She found this site very helpful while going through the application process as it tends to be a long one!

Hello, Brianne17.

I'm also applying to get into BSN program at UFV this September and I'm glad to see a fellow applicant! Technically, I applied for LPN access BSN but I've heard that both application processes are equally brutal... Is this your first time to apply into the program?

Hi bkim88,

This is my first time applying. Usually it sounds like most get in on their second try - but I have heard of a few that have been accepted on their first and even their third:s I know when my sister got in there were 280 that applied and only 48 that got in (some of the 48 will go to fast track after first year)

So being an LPN does that mean you would start the BSN program in 3rd semester?

My sister said the interview wasn't bad at all - she was very nervous for it and came out of it saying that they make you feel very at ease. The waiting for your status to change on MyUFV to "conditionally excepted" was the hardest part of the whole application process for her. (this means you have been accepted but must tell them if you are filling the spot or not)

Is this your fist time applying?

Hi! I've been searching for a long time now for a thread posted for sept 2014!

Im applying as well. Just waiting for my bio transcript to be updated to my application, can't wait for it to state that I am complete!

Anyone else applying for the fast track?

Hi Meghan111 - I've applied for the 4 year program. I just re-did English and it only took a few days to show up on my transcript:)

Ok, well that's not too bad. It's been a week for me so far but I know they're so busy right now. I'm just sooo anxious to see "complete applicant status" on there! It's taken me like two years to be eligible to apply! I hope my application will suffice! Good luck to you girls as well!

Well today is the deadline! Still don't see my Bio transcript posted to myUFV, which worries me because it's my best mark submitted, but called yesterday and they assuredme they had it and it just hadn't been updated yet. Now the official waiting game starts! Really hope my application will earn me a spot at the information session.

Hello Brianne17 and Meghan111,

I guess all three of us applied to different paths of BSN and I can't believe today is the deadline and our official waiting game begins!

Brianne17, this is technically my second year of applying to LPN access to BSN. My last application for 2013 fall was a total disaster... First, UFV raised the bar on minimum experience from three years to three and half due to high volume of applicants and my A&P credits were denied in meeting the equivalency to HSC111&113 because my official course outlines did not state lab hours. For this year, I have gained another year of experience at an acute setting(hospital), which gives me three years and 8 months of experience and after submitting the missing lab hours for my A&P courses, UFV finally allowed them to be equivalent to HSC 111&113 just yesterday! It took me many emails and phone calls between registrar office, program advisor, nursing coordinator and even the dean of the program to finally have my credits transferred and countless of sleepless nights to get where I am now and I really hope that I will be accepted into the program. I had to move away to Saskatchewan to gain my experiences as there was no opportunity of employment when I graduated from LPN program and I would love to see my hard work, dedication and all the compromises I've made to get where I am to pay off. Wow, I apologize for talking your ears(I guess eyes, in this case...) off with my boring story! Enough about me and what about you? What made you to apply into nursing? And are you a high school grad or studied any other programs at a post-secondary school?

Meghan111, I hear your frustration with your credit transfer but I believe that as long as your transcript were received by today before 4pm, UFV will allow your credits. Was your biology taken at UFV or any other BC institute? I had trouble transferring my A&P credits from Saskatchewan but I am sure the process is much easier if you're transferring credits withing BC.

I felt relieved to find out that my application requirements were all received and added onto my application yesterday and today being the deadline, I am starting to have my butterflies again! I wish all of us good luck and not as many sleepless nights I had during last application :nurse:

I totally get the sleepless nights thing! It's all I've been able to think about day in and day out for the last two years!!! I did all my upgrading in night school in Abbotsford. I graduated high school almost 14 years ago so had to do all prerequisites again. I'm sincerely hoping my Math grade doesn't scratch me off their list before I even have the chance at the info session. I unfortunately only met the min requirement :( everything else in my application should hopefully suffice though. Here's hoping!

Meghan111, bkim88 ~ I just got a letter yesterday stating that my application is complete:)

bkim88 ~ Sounds like you have been through a lot and have made a lot of sacrifices. It also sounds like you have a great application!! I took a year at UFV in bachelor of Arts ~ After the year and countless people telling me that getting my BA is a big waste of time ~ I decided to switch to BSN. I am going in with an A in English12 and Math11 and a B in Chem11 and Bio12. I have completed all my non-nursing electives and have about 90 hours of volunteer hours working at an extended care home and for Fraser Valley Health (weighing and measuring babies before their shots) I did send if 4 letters of reference.

I have to say though that you just never know who they are going to pick for entry. My sister applied out of high school with 4 B's and didn't even get an interview so went back again with 2 A's and 2 B's and 120 volunteer hours and got in. I know some other applicants she knew had all A's and had a ton of schooling behind them with 300 - 500 volunteer hours and were not chosen so there is really no telling what they are looking for. I hope this helps a bit!!

If they haven't changed things we will all go to the information session and will write our essay then (usually consists of 4 questions) from there they will go onto the interviews! My sister was SO nervous for the interview but came out feeling very good about it ~ she said the they make you feel very calm ~ they ask a ton of questions and write all your answers down. Then after that is a huge waiting game ~ I think she checked the mail everyday for DAYSSSS!!

Oh and I graduated in 2012:)

Hi Brianne,

did if your myUFV ACCOUNT state that you were complete? With an email? All mine says now that indicated my complete status was next to "decision" and said "ready to be reviewed by program"

Never mind, it finally came! Also, I spoke to chwk health Sciences and he told me exactly who would be picked for the info session (not everyone can go). So whomever has the highest GPA's and the highest amount of volunteer hours (not looking at the actual references) will be chosen for the info session. I asked her how many people they would likely select for the IS and she said that teu don't have a set amount of applicants. If they 25 high GPAS, 25 people will be invited. If they have 200 high GPA's, then 200 invited and so on. Only after your essay do they start to tally up points. In case anyone was wondering :) oh and she also assured me that if we are not even making it as far as the info session, they will let us know by email.
