BSN program @ UFV September 2014 Intake

Hello,

I have just completed my application for the BSN program at UFV for the September 2014 Intake. I thought I would start this thread for anyone wanting to share their thoughts, ask some questions etc. The deadline is fast approaching! As far as I know interviews take place in March and decisions usually are done in May. I have a sister who is in fourth semester at UFV and is loving it! She found this site very helpful while going through the application process as it tends to be a long one!

Oh and if you click on "check applications" (or something like that on the left column) and then click on Fall 2014. A little chart should come up with all of your info, the documents you have submitted should say "received" and there will be a spot midway down the chart that says "decision". Beside it should be "ready for review by program".

if it doesn't, CONTACT NANCY at the office of the registrar to make sure they have all your ducks in a row for you!!!! Mistakes can happen; they've happened a lot since I've applied.

kBevans56 - I think that the interview is the most important part of getting a spot in the program. If you interview well that will be a huge bonus for you. I think they are looking for people that can obviously get through the schooling + have the personality to work with people on a day to day basis (patients and fellow nurses etc) It has always been a surprise to friends in the past applying who gets picked and who doesn't in the end so don't worry everyone has a shot! Hopefully we all get a spot at the info session and all go on from there:) I will post whenever i hear anything - good or bad!

Meghan111 - I had to call a lot also ~ checking on updated marks etc to make sure they had my completed application. The first hurdle of many to come!

Hi guys,

I recently applied for the September 2014 intake as well, and i've spent most of my days since just worrying!! I check the mail every single day for a letter regarding the information session. How are you guys holding up?!

I believe someone said it could take up until March to hear! So we may have a little while to wait kkr12! Hopefully soon though! Good luck!

Hey all! I am new to this site, and am so glad I found you guys! I am also a complete applicant hoping for a spot in Sept. I have 2 A's and 2 B's, and 200 volunteer hours and 6 months employment as a support worker. I am a little worried about my grades, but I hope my job, where I have been trained and certified to dispense and administer drugs, do intermitted catheterization, lifts, and many other pratical healthcare task, will save me! Really hoping for a interview!!

Good luck to all! Will be watching this forum looking for updates obsessively :)

P.S this is my second time applying!! Being turned down last year sucked, would really not like a repeat experience.

Hey guys,

I was told by school that we should hear from them around mid-march whether you were chosen to attend the info session or not. I have been worrying so much since the application deadline but no news is good news! I hope we all hear good news in a couple of weeks. Then, we could maybe sleep good for once before we start to worry about the interview and essay! :)

Hi Neverland,

I hear you about being turned down! This is my unofficially second time applying- I was denied unofficially last year, over an email from the program director- and I literallyvwent into endless shock, considering I have so much more skills than LPNs practicing back in BC. I am working full-scope doing IV insertion, maintenance, med administration, central line maintenance, blood transfusions on top of what other LPNs in BC do, under their college's (CLPNBC) protocol :(

But, hey! Your grades and 200hrs of volunteer hours sound amazing! Hopefully we will be given opportunity this round to attend the info session and have our essay and interview done as well! Cheer up!

bkim88 - Oh no middle of March! That is awhile away! I was expecting something soon. Btw - Your qualifications sound amazing!

This is my first time applying and having 2 A's and 2 B's worry me now - after finding out they have changed guidelines for the info session! I have taken all my non-nursing electives and have volunteered at a long term nursing home and for Fraser Valley Health but now I'm worried that isn't going to be enough! If I don't get in I'm hoping to start on Anatomy in September. My sister found Anatomy the hardest out of all classes she has done - even harder than Pathology!

Well you can all rest easy regarding your grades because you are all ahead of me in that area!

my only saving grace will be my work experience (MOA for over 13 years in almost every type of setting) and volunteer hours at a nursing home. You all seem so nice and supportive; the type of classmates I would love to be working alongside at school and/hospital!

i also will report to you all with any new news or info --good or bad!!

Btw, Kim:

that is shocking that you weren't accepted. Did they provide a reason?

Hi Meghan,

Last year, after applying into the program with a successful requirements, I was informed that my 3 years, 6000+ hours, nursing experience was not enough, despite of my wider range of skills. I was also told that school will not "judge" applicants and their experiences based on their places of the employment. So basically, I was given lower points than a person from a long term care that worked longer than I have. I was expecting quality (skills) over quantity but I guess the rule was quantity over quality. I was upset to hear that but who am I do judge where applicants have worked? I am finally happy for the people who got accepted lastyear cause I understand that they did spend more time than me working at a long term care or not :) I am hopeful that my 4 years of experience is good enough to win me a seat this time! This is a side story but I love working as a LPN in SK, where I have the independence to make my own nursing judgements, along with RNs and other health care workers, and practice wide range of scope but my future as a LPN in BC is very limited compared to what I do currently. I thought of chanhing my career path too but then I was reminded by my patients and their families past week, why I do what I do even after leaving my fiancé, family and friends back home. To tell you the truth, nursing isn't all happy story like healing everyone and saving lives; you often deal with chronic patients, their suffering and even deaths of patients after getting to know them closely. It's tough being a nurse physicallyand psychologically but it is what my heart desires to do. I know that many people are going into nursing due to its income and benefits but that should not be the cause. It's very sad seeing nurses that are so smart and graduate from universities with high GPA then, treat their patients poorly with no empathy and manner :( I hope we all get accepted into the program and become the best RNs!

I know March is still a ways away, so we should all take melatonin and sleep well meanwhile lol. I'm just worried that maybe my application was not forwarded to the health science department like yours have! I better call school to make sure it's being actualky reviewed! Oh, and your academic marks and experience aren't bad at all ;) Cheer up and I apologize for talking your ears? eyes off!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)
