So today i was asked by the scoutmaster of our boy scout troop at my school, if this weekend i would go with them to stay over night in a cabin. His reason was that a boy who just joined the troop has Hemophilia (I have not had any problems with this child or his condition all year, very wall managed by parents and MD)
So i told him if i get paid i would do it (my lead RN said it was up to me), just to ease his mind. so he looked at me and said okay will pay you!!! i said okay give me time and date and i'll be there
Have any of you been asked to do something like this? how would i even prepare for this? and should i have said yes to him?

Just make sure you have malpractice insurance (and that it covers you for the different work environment). Just to be safe.

I wouldn't have, sorry. They can call an agency and get a nurse. How old are the kids? Would you be administering meds? Why can't the kids take their own? How much are you getting paid? Do you have your own malpractice? Is there a specific care plan from the doctor for the kid with underlying hemophilia?

Wow, the liability issue would prevent me from taking this on for sure!

Nope, not me. Liability. Make sure you have malpractice insurance.
They need to know that you are not working under the school as a school nurse if you go. They can not hold the school liable for anything that happens.....only you are liable.
Thank for all your concerns!! after thinking about it i am not going due to the liability, i told them i will be on-call if they need anything..

being on call still makes you liable if you care for the child. have his parents be on call.

What does he need? If there is an issue, 911.

Leaders are required to have a Red Cross first aid card. I doubt if he was unstable the parent would send him on the trip. There are policies within the BSA for such scenarios. If he has an issue call parent or 911 as appropriate. A nurse is not needed for this.
At summer camps there is usually a camp staff nurse on site 24/7
