Brown Mackie College

Published

Hello all I am a new student. I am a student in the Brown Mackie College Nursing Program. i have been here since March 31, 2008. I just finished my first class Professioonal Development, I got an A. My teacher really tried to make the class more challenging than it actually was, and I really appreciate her for that because it seems as if this school is not challenging enough for me, especially after going to a 4 year university. I just want to know are there any nursing graduates that have successfully landed a job?? Those of you that have graduated was it difficult to go on and get your BSN??? I really wish i would have found this site before I signed up with them, i really felt like I was tricked or something!!! I called KU's school of nursing to see if I would be able to qualify for their RN- to -BSN program which is one year. The lady said that their program said that they weren't NLN (National Leage of Nurses) accredited. My heart sank because just for one month I've already spent a lot of money. I then called Brown Mackie College to see what they said. I really didn't know how important it was to choose a NLN accredited school. Anywho they told me that since their nursing program was fairly new, they are NLN candidates and they most definitly will have their NLN accreditation by March 1, 2009!!! If I decide to stay with Brown Mackie I will graduate April/2010, and they should have their NLN by the time I graduate. Are they feeding me a load of crap or am I being paranoid!

I am considering Brown Mackie only b/c courses are offered once a month. I was in a 4 year program, but was unable to financially continue since I had to work. We have a lot of programs in the area that are not NLN accredited. Once you get your LPN license you will be okay to transfer into an RN program. You may have to take your basic core courses over if you took them at Brown Mackie. But the nursing portion should transfer.

I would check around to other colleges if your thinking of transfering to another school after going to Brown Mackie. I know here, in Michigan the closest Brown Mackie is not accredited and thats a BIGGY to transfer credits another college, often they dont transfer and you have to take them over or completely start over.

Dont take the word of Brown Mackie but instead go to the college that your thinking of transferring to and ask what their requirements are. That way you have the most up to date and fair understanding what is needed.

here in indiana almost all of the hospitals around won't hire bm grads b/c they arn't accredited. the only place they can work around here are a few choice nursing home that need help really bad. i know several aides that have went there and paid a lot of money to go through and graduate from their nursing program and ended up working as aides because they can't find jobs around here. i would say try to find another school. going to bm in indiana in a joke. where you live things maybe different. good luck and i hope you can find something better. :nuke:

You know, I would try calling the board of nursing. They have always been helpful when I have called. But--from what I read, I would pull out right away before I spend any more money. Look for a Community college or University program!

I hear that your credits won't transfer from Brown Mackie.

Personally, I think it's a rip off. They charge you all that money for school and they are not even accredited. Then you graduate and can't find a job.

I assume you are in the Kansas City area, since you mentioned KU. Have you tried some of the community colleges? They are ALOT more cheaper and they are accredited. You won't have no problem landing a job after graduation.

did they ever get there NLN certification? you still at BMC?

The threads in the Region section here on allnurses have a lot to say.

I don't know anything about them first hand.

Specializes in Mostly geri :).

I'm in Ohio, my experience with them was TERRIBLE. I transfered to a much better school, one of my new classmates was a BMC survivor as well.
