Things at BC are going well for me. My grades are good (A's & B's). I'm completing my specialties now. I'm about half way through the program. My main concern now, what am I going to do when I finish school? I entered the program with the plan of eventually becoming an anesthetist. Now, I'm not so sure that I want to continue on that path. So, as I complete each course, I'm hoping that I'll encounter an area that I love.

That is great!!

Once you start working at the hospital-- you will see and meet tons of RNs who do different things throughout the hospital. Like the ones who work in administration, teaching, utilization review etc. etc. There are a lot of options that you can do.

I am happy that you are doing awesome!!

I am doing well too on my RN-BSN program. I don't think that it makes sense to go to a private school to RN-BSN when the $4K you can get from the hospital covers most of the expenses of a state school.

Good to hear that you're doing well in your program.

What was the name of the advisor. You need to talk to Elizabeth Kenealy. She is the health science advisor.

1)You do not need your CPR card before you apply but you will need your BLS for Health care provider before you start the program along with the various CAE courses. I called BCC friday and was told that your BLS must be at least 6 hours and must be approved by the American Heart Association. Be sure it is BLS not CPR.

2)You do need to complete the HCP course, OR have started the course or have it waved BEFORE YOU APPLY.

Hope this helps.

i had a meeting with this african guy name Tella OKyanuya. thanks Vonne, but the reason i needed my card is because i was a HHA about 2 years ago so i need it to waived that class (my card is expired). one more thing isnt a BLS and CPR card the same thing?

I believe the CPR card is offered by the American Red Cross and BLS is offered by American Heart Assoc. When I called, I was told that the card must say Basic Life Support, be offered by the American Heart Assoc., and be at least 6 hours.

The admissions info in the link below appears to be accurate about what's needed to apply to BC's program and what's needed prior to beginning classes following admissions.

The uniforms are royal blue.

BCC vs NOVA...Can someone tell me about these school besides the cost....the good, the bad and so on.....thanks

Nova: great school, great teachers, great facility, respectful students, you get treated with so much respect from the instructors, and they actually help you and want you to pass!, there are tons of tutoring if you are not doing well-- tutoring for writing, anatomy,.. the library there is amazing, you can find and check out basically anything. and you get your BSN in a little over 2 years. they curb the grades. so if you are almost at the passing, and the highest grade was a 96, they will curb it and give the students those extra points. ALL the tests are written the way that NCLEX would write it. so basically you are getting prepared for your exam all the way from the beginning.

------------only bad part I could think of, is the cost

BCC: they don't curb the grades, if you are doing well and you miss 1 point, they will not give it you,-- they don't care if they have 19 students and 9 fail one class--- all 9 students will fail that class (I saw it!!). They dont let you make up clinical days even if you had a baby (I know, I lived it) when they have clinicals available on other campuses. the teachers sometimes treat you without respect, the teachers--some-- are disorganized and you don't know what they want you to know because they don't tell you. if you complain about something they dont care, they look at you as if you don't matter. they dont prepare you for the nclex-- you can't use calculators, and if you fail the math test you fail the entire semester even if it is by one point, and some teachers give you a chance because they know you will fail the entire semester if you don't pass that math test--- but you don't know wich one will help you and which one will not.

---------the only good part is that if you finish, you study on your own, and you pass the nclex. most of my classmates passed except for 1-- but I know she did not study and put in her time.

It makes me sick to my stomach just to know that next week half of those in my nursing process I class won't be around....just praying i'm not among that group. I'v been doing my best but just when I think I've caught up, I'm one step behind.

So how is BC going for you??

did you pass??

I know sometimes it seems like you are not in the game, but just hang in there, study your hardest and you will make it.

I would get to school at 8am-- I left at 7am to beat the traffic, I lived in south miami and drove to pembroke pines--- I would either go to the library to read or use the computer--get to class by 8:45am-- sit way up front, in front of the teacher, in ALL my classes.

Then when school was out at 12noon, I would leave home, be at my house by 2 or 3pm (there was so much traffic at that time on the palmetto & turnpike, and on US1 soon after I95 ends)..

I would eat, then take an hour nap--- yes! I made myself get naps (I was preggers!!)

then I would 4 or 5pm I would start reading and making my notes. I wrote on a post it how many pages I needed to read and make notes on.

and that was on mondays and fridays.

on my clinical days I did not study, only if I had a test that friday or thursday for pharm during the first semester.

and a week before every test, I would go over my notes that I made on my slides, after a while, when I really did not have any motivation for studying and writing everything down--- I would just have my computer and book, and I would type my notes, I would type and type and type until I had my "most important" material on the paper, then I would go over and over and over again.

then by the time I would take the tests I did well.....

there was a time that I had no idea what to do--- and I asked around and one of the girls told me to study what the teacher said instead of reading the book=== that is what I did and ended up getting a b---my points were so high up there, that I did not need to pass the last 2 exams to pass the class.

so it's always a good idea to ask those classmates that are doing well, what they are doing to study.... and most people will answer you honestly.

--good luck everyone!!

great advice bumblebeern. how is FIU going so far? do you find the classes easier than nursing school?
